Not only that, but "iconoclasty" isn't even a word. "Iconoclasm" is though.

I was firstly noticing that however insignificant for him Prince death was it was still enough for Kurogane to get a 5 letter title ego boost on (or some kind of equivalent wording that I will now try to remember for the rest of the day) then bowing to his majesty and promising to stop caring aboot what he don't care...

(Mah bad if i'm once again digging mah own grave here...)

I'm just waiting for his fans to start seeing him working as a cashier in a Tire store in Kalamazoo.

It looks like I didn't speak soon enough.

Prince goes door to door for Jehovah's Witnesses

Prince, who said in a 2001 interview that he’s become a Jehovah’s Witness, takes his new faith seriously. So discovered a woman named Rochelle, who told the Minneapolis-St.Paul Star Tribune that her husband answered a knock on the door to their Eden Prairie, Minn., home last Sunday to find the purple pop star proselytizing. He introduced himself by his full name, Prince Nelson, and came inside, accompanied by his bassist, former Sly and the Family Stone member Larry Graham, Rochelle told the paper.

Prince had no will; sister Tyka Nelson asks court for special administrator

Isn't a bit soon for this sort of confessional post mortem? I get that druggies often suffer from underlying problems that cause their dependence on the junk that robs them of their health and happiness, and in this case, of life itself, but unless his productivity dropped off drastically in the past few years and even if much of his work was mental effluent I think it's a bit of a stretch to say he had no will. Simply putting all that music to paper and then to tape would require at least some will I would argue. I see some paralells to David Bowie here: even if most of Bowie's stuff after Ziggy Stardust and the good parts of Aladdin Sane was masturbatory jismotica, the energy he displayed can serve as an inspiration regardless of how shit all that gayass androerotica stuff was. I see no reason to tear down the church so soon after the Head Priest has left the altar.

It is all just a testament to his state of mind, there was just nobody to witness it, and there will be nobody to execute it. It has probative value as a lesson to the rest of us. In this case it sounds like Tyka will be the one to benefit. We have lost the opportunity to ask the musicman to play our special bequests.

Nicely put. It does show that where there's a will there's a way. And often when there isn't, too.

In related news, it is said that in Paraguay they have seen animals strike serious poses. Do they feel the heat? Is THIS what it sounds like...............???

I forgot this cheerful little ditty was a Prince song.

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

He also wrote "I Feel for You" covered more successfully by Chaka Khan. I would provide a link for his version but as is usual he blasted copyright notices everywhere and there are no versions available online. "Manic Monday", the Bangles hit, was also his.

Why isn't Kuro already in here with the current Canadian warcry?

"Forget Prince and Bowie...."

Tragically Hip frontman and lead singer Gord Downie will be well enough to go on tour despite a diagnosis of terminal brain cancer, one of his doctors told a news conference this morning.

Downie, 52, was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an invasive brain tumour, in his front left temporal lobe in December after he suffered a seizure while walking around his hometown of Kingston, neuro-oncologist Dr. James Perry said.

“Fortunately for Gord, he has a type of glioblastoma that is more amenable to treatment than most . . . with a more favourable response to treatment,” Perry told the news conference at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

While he said Downie could have “a significantly higher chance of longer-term survival,” Perry repeatedly declined to give a timeline for the cancer’s progress.

He said the cancer is “incurable” and will eventually claim the singer’s life.

If they had done an album of the covers they used to do at the Queen's university pub I would be more worked up, but I have never quite forgiven them for presuming we preferred those throw away obscure hipster lyrics about childhood summers and other esoteric Canadiana BS. I do hope things work out for him and het gets the best treatment, naturally. To be fair to ole Gordo they have been far more tragic than hip for quite a few years now, and their batting average for me is about the same as Bowie and slightly higher than Prince: one solid album, a few singles, otherwise Radio GooGoo, Radio GaGa. Possibly the best proper rock n roll band to never really fulfill their promise.

Besides, I'm busy. The battle for Lord Stanley's Cup has finally begun in earnest. I toyed with the idea of going for San Jose just for a change, but they have always been a mildly gay sort of team (jersey colours, team name, etc.), and both Thornton and Burns have cheated egregiously on the playoff beards, which is a serious ethical violation and a very bad facial hair choice, so the Penguins it is. At least they all shaved on the last day of the season as you're supposed to. OTOH, Crosby and other Penguins may have touched the Prince of Wales Trophy when they won the Eastern Conference, so they might be doomed. Doomed, I say.............Doomed. Not even rolling up their left stockings in unison while singing Kumbaya before each game can save them from the wrath of the Hockey Gods now.

Hahahahahahah, well you're one game ahead at this point. SJ has never even made it to the finals before, let alone won Lord Stanley's cup, so I'd like to see them win....but I can honestly see it dropping either way.

Yeah, that was my sentiment for going for the Sharks, but those beards are awful, and the Sharks do suck wet assjuice generally speaking. Either way, it's been great hockey since round 1, and I don't care much for either team, so as long as the hockey is good I'm happy

The beards are pretty terrible...

Besides Crosby, it's pretty hard to hate anyone on either team though....which is weird. First game was fun but I wonder if the pounding the Pens took will effect them in the series later on. (or their backup, turned starter, goalie)

Never understood the Hate Crosby thing. You might have a point about size but SJ seemed a bit undisciplined and has been taking very untimely bad penalties all the way through the playoffs without really paying for it yet. Pittsburgh will make them pay. And Thornton's beard is just inexcusable. It makes him look like a 54 year old paedo. Plus he cheated by not shaving.

Go Pens.

Imma let you finish but Crosby is the biggest manchild evar!!! One does not simply get a nickname like "The Baby" he's almost as bad as a soccer player...

Crosby is cheap.

In Game 3 of the 2010 Conference Quarterfinals against the Montreal Canadiens, Crosby took a dive that ignited a scrum. During the scrum, Crosby waited until a teammate became involved with Roman Hamrlik before cowardly punching Hamrlik in the head.

During another scrum involving the Atlanta Thrashers on December 18, 2008 Crosby waited for a teammate to get Boris Valabik down before throwing punches at him from behind.

In yet another cowardly act, Crosby’s second career fight featured him jumping an unsuspecting Brett McLean during a faceoff.

Crosby is a diver.

Along with these pathetic displays that show Crosby’s lack of courage are equally as embarrassing dives.

Faking in order to draw a powerplay is not only incredibly disrespectful to the integrity of the game, but embarrassing to one's own dignity.

Crosby is a whiner.

In the second round of the 2009 playoffs, Pittsburgh played the Washington Capitals.

When Alex Ovechkin scored a hat trick in the second game of the series, Crosby asked a referee if he could have an announcement made for the fans to "stop throwing hats."

After decades of this hockey tradition taking place, Crosby suddenly felt he was too good to be on the short end of such a celebration.

This was one example of the many complaints Crosby is famous for.

In a 2009 player survey, he was voted as the league's whiniest player. Crosby alone received 52 percent of the votes; more than every other player in the NHL combined.

Again, that's more than half of the votes going for Crosby, less than half of them split among the other several hundred players in the league.

So, why is Sidney Crosby hated?

Crosby is a cheap, arrogant whiner who feels entitled to special treatment.

Oh, the whiney thing. Sure, but he is targeted pretty savagely, and Crosby is an Irish name isn't it?
Lest we forget, the same was said of Gretzky and Lemieux, etc before the adulation turned into hagiography. He also has taken a huge amount for crap for not "playing through" his head injuries. Even allowing for what sadistic, cretinous savages most self-proclaimed Real Hockey Fans are, anybody disappointed he and his doctors care if he can still walk and talk at age 52 should be assfucked with a barbed broomstick. I would prefer to see an instant 20-50 game suspension for any headhunting or targeting. They might not be the brightest bunch of bulbs but hockey players know how to listen; if we teach them they will be ruined for ruining others they'll stop. If we get rid of the dirty farmboy crap everybody except the hacks and the Old Skool trog fans will be the happier.

So, anyways.............Prince died???? Wasn't he still 50-something???????

Did Gretzky really have that rep? Being a Kings fan since way back when and without the interwebz to watch the hate, I never really saw him in that light. Lemieux had a bunch of controversy but I still liked the guy. As for Crosby being head hunted, no doubt that's part of his frustration and to see dangerous runs at him or anyone is fucked. What erks me most about him is the diving...leave that shit for soccer.

Your media outlet of choice wrote:Prince died from overdose of the synthetic opioid fentanyl, medical examiner says

The music icon Prince died from an overdose of a synthetic opioid called fentanyl, the local medical examiner has found.

The single-page report said Prince "self-administered fentanyl," referring to a synthetic opioid many times more potent than heroin.

It has also been reported that Prince had been scheduled to meet with an addiction specialist the day after he was found dead. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the person who found the musician's body and called for an ambulance is the son of the specialist Prince was scheduled to meet with.

A responding paramedic told staff members, law enforcement officers and others at the scene that Prince appeared to have been dead for at least six hours by the time his body was found.

Wow. I am not one for believing urban myths, but this Any Year That Ends in 6 one is starting to look pretty convincing. Anyways, another global icon has passed away, and while he was no choir boy, in his own way he was a prince of the people:

Gordie Howe dies at 88
