A Ray of Sunshine

Snake-handling pastor Jamie Coots hailed as 'martyr' after fatal bite. Preachers who practice handle poisonous snakes during church services vow to continue tradition despite deaths and illegality

Coots died on Saturday night after being bitten on the right hand during a service at his Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name church. The 42-year-old, who featured prominently in the National Geographic series Snake Salvation, refused medical attention on religious grounds.

His son, Cody, said his family had expected him to survive because he had been bitten eight times before. “Everybody was getting in, shouting, taking up serpents, speaking in tongues, handling fire,” he told Kentucky’s WKYT-TV. “You could just feel the power of God.”

Because nothing says Hope and Salvation quite like a freshly chlorinated gene pool with a promise of further cleansing.

Good news, everyone!

"The rattler that took a deadly bite out of "Snake Salvation" pastor Jamie Coots will not be killed ... in fact, the family will deploy the snake during next Saturday's service.

Jamie's son Cody tells us, the family still believes in God's protective power against snake venom -- despite his father's death -- telling us his dad felt it was much better to die from a snakebite than a stroke or car accident ... in fact, for him a snakebite was "God's way."

Yeah, mea culpa. It was probably all the excitement over the successful chlorination project.

Great follow up work, though. Good to hear the snake is okay!

No apples involved in next Saturday's service?

Police dismiss Norwegian mass killer’s complaints
By Associated Press, STOCKHOLM — Police in Norway say they have rejected a complaint by convicted mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik about poor prison conditions.

Police said in a statement Monday they have investigated and dismissed Breivik’s claims that the he is being held under illegal conditions.

Breivik earlier this month threatened to go on a hunger strike unless his conditions are improved. Among other things, he has complained about being kept in isolation and demanded access to better video games, a sofa and a larger gym.

Something about this guy that just keeps me hoping they release him into the general population. He reminds me of these Freeman on the Land wingnuts we have here.
