Just listened to BBC Radio 5 playing Purple Rain whilst dressing. What a song that was. Poise, elegance, originality and barely controlled passion. Absolutely beautiful. One of those rare songs that when you listen for the first time they change the way you think and feel about music forever.

And that guitar sound was something completely new and beautiful as well. By turns rough edged and fierce then soaring swooping verging orchestral.

Never a fan of his music though he was a billiant guitarist, but I was a fan of the man, he demonstrated that in order to get creative control you needed to take business control, and from the 90s on I think a lot of musicians benefited

The main drug that Prince supposedly OD'd on was Perocet which is a combination of Oxycodone [ the same drug that Julie Hamp smuggled when she was heading Toyota PR ] and Tylenol (acetaminophen). Prince also supposedly used/abused Dilaudid (Hydromorphone) which was not the one that was blamed for Michael Jackson's death but definitely one of the ones he used as well.

RIP, I guess. I was as much a fan of Prince as Kuro was of Keith Emerson. For all his talent he produced a bunch of forgetable 80's pop numbers. In one of the papers they had a survey of what people thought was his most memorable song and honestly I couldn't remember any of them.
