Look at the pics again, I think this is only sold outside Japan. LHD

Would also be a bit more helpful for track days....going from LHD to RHD will get you one thing....DOOR PUNCH!

Is there a pic with the top up?

Soft top or folding hard top?

Edit: Never mind, found some and (urgh ...) it's not the prettiest sight.
These things need to look good with the top up or down.

Softop looks nasty but it's an easy fix with an aftermarket hardtop...

Was just an example...the S2000 is soft top as well...but benefits from those nicer aftermarket hard tops. I'm sure there will be an aftermarket hard top for the 86 as well.

Aftermarket hard tops ... for those who have plenty of garage-type storage space. Plus, you won't be opening and closing one of those things on a whim. You put it on for the winter, and then take it off for the spring ~ fall season when you use your soft top. Otherwise there's no point in having a roadster. And, anyone who wants a roadster for the right reasons will have the top open in the winter too. So really, although it's just my opinion, that sort of hard top doesn't make much sense. The fold-away hard tops like on the current BMW Z4 and Mercedes Benz SL(K) roadsters are fine (except they take up waaaay too much boot room).

The Honda S2000 soft top looks good when up, so does the soft top on the early BMW Z4 (E85).

The soft top on the Nissan Fairlady roadster, on the other hand, looks kinda goofy, IMHO.

If you need to put an aftermarket hard top on your roadster, just get a coupe.

Non-opening hard tops on roadsters ... of all the purpose-defeating, sacrilegious ... yeesh ...

the hard top on the S2K was a dealer option. It cost 25万円 in japan and more in foreign markets so no one bought it.

The mazda hard top has always been a dealer option but at $600USD it is much more common.

I have picturess from a mazda Miata coupe from toyohashi. It's not a hard top, it's a real coupe...

(btw I totally agree with gran'p... ehhh... yokohammer...

Hard topping a convertible is... weird... hell even the daihatsu copen had a hard retractabul roof (Renault Megane CC and Renault Wind too...)

I know there were dealer options as well but I doubt there will be one for the 86 as it's not mainly sold as a convert. Just like the S2K, Miata, etc. though, the aftermarket will fill the gap.

BTW, I don't disagree with it just being weird to add weight and an only slight functionality to make a roadster that way...but then if you track the car, and live in a place with weather like we have here, it'll see more use than you might expect.

nissan is still japanese even if the boss is french. all the design, preproduction, testing begins in japan then is sent to europe (not france) to get approval.

It's not just that the boss is French. The company is owned by the French and is now classified as a gaishike kigyou in Japan. However, I would tend to agree with you.

The number of french Renault engineers send to lead on projects at Nissan is still today, what could be called... massive. And most Nissan cars are based on Renault plateforms, making them, basically, rebadged Renaults...

WE OWN THEM, get over it...
Plus, when your world HQ in japan float the French flag at the front door you leave not much guessing aboot who's the boss...

I only quoted companies belonging to the Renault group.

If not, you need to add:
Peugeot
Citroen
Bugatti
Panhard
Venturi
Nexter/Giat
