OK, max upload filesize is 4MB / 4096x3072 px, but any uploaded files will be resized down to max 640px in the interests of displayability. It looks like the original sized version is kept on the filesystem.

That should be a reasonable setting for now, we can look at fancier arrangements (galleries etc.) at a later date.

It's good to know about the auto-downsizing to 640px. I will just save my images to sizes smaller than the forum's max.
