There has been a notable increase in Japanese firms bidding for overseas companies recently although this seems to be the first hostile bid.Sumida Corp. will launch a hostile takeover bid in August for Swiss electric parts maker Saia-Burgess Electronics Holdings AG, Sumida officials said Friday...Sumida initially hoped to implement a tender offer from July 22 to Aug. 19 but met opposition from Saia-Burgess. As a result, the Japanese company decided to launch a hostile takeover bid in August, the officials said. Sumida, a coil maker listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, posted 36.2 billion yen in sales for the year to December 2004.
