Remember that correlation does not imply causation. So the question is still unresolved, whether the games make the kids dumb, or whether dumb kids are attracted to gaming.

Yes, it's very typical of the 'scientific' studies done on T.V. a lot here. Never a control group and never a mention of outcomes that are not in line with the one our 'researchers' are looking for. Huge gaps in logic.

Or even more basically, whether memorizing kanji = smart.
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

I don't think there can be any dispute that not memorizing kanji = illiteracy. So that would seem to be a basic component of intelligence for any nihonjin.
