Tougher criteria suggested for visas
06/01/2006

THE ASAHI SHIMBUN
A Justice Ministry panel has recommended Japanese language proficiency as a condition for long-term visa renewals and ending a special visa program for foreigners of Japanese ancestry.

For a country shrinking in population, they are sure doing everything they can to make it harder and harder for immigrants to come here....

A Japanese language proficiency would be great, if they pay for it.

and what i'd like to figure out is wich level will make us eligible for the visa. Actualy i've got the 3kyuu and keep preparing the 2kyuu.
I don't really care now because i gave up about living in japan again, i'm just curious about it...

They are doing similar things here in Australia, the main reason is that a lot of migrant workers are coming to the country without a good enough grasp of the language to safely work in industry.. This is a huge issue in the industry that I work in, where big machinery has the capability to easily kill a lot of people..

>>where big machinery has the capability to easily kill a lot of people...

Yeahhh! kill a lot of people! sounds great!!!

Joke apart, we have the same thing in Switzerland, but only for foreigners who want to get the swiss citizenship (wich is totaly different)
They have to be efficient at least in one of our four national langages and have to pass a test for it... a test at wich a lot of swiss people will be unsuccesful... (should we bannish them?)
For the others, well, i leave in Geneva and here is plenty foreigners with a proper visa and a steady job, even if they are bad at french, italian or german... most of them are unable to read a menu or fill a registration formular, but who mind? Just annoing when they get upset if they meet non-english-speaking locals...
So should we treat only Aussies and Japaneses like this to keep the balance? And what if arabic countries will do so? China? Russia? Finland?
As you already understood i'm unfortunately a crap at english. But would it be natural to be rejected by non-frenchy speaking country if i want to settle abroad? hope not...
I spend about a year in Japan and six month in Poland without speaking the langage. Okay, i have to admit that i gave up quickly to learn polish because just for few month it was a waste of time... i'd just read a travel dictionnary and was able to go shopping and ask for very basic things. A pitty i know, don't really feel proud of it eighter...

About this Japanese level profeciency thing, i do understand it will help to had already reached at list the 4kyuu or 3kyuu before move to Japan. (wich cost about 70 swiss francs)
But what if they request the 2kyuu or the 1 kyuu as elligibility criteria??? (respectivly 1200 and about 3000 kanji to learn, plus the voc, plus the grammar) NOVA will be soon filled by a bunch of gran-pa... if not bankrupted before...
Another problem is that test take place worldwide only once a year, the sunday of december... sure it would bother some people if they have to wait a year, and as far as i know japanese autorities they are not that keen with exceptions...

My guess is they're going to do the same thing they did for the whores, create a special visa for native language teachers.
That way they get to pick only the foreigners they need. Those not motivated enough to speak flawless japanese don't need to be here unless they bring something japanese nationals can't do, sucking cock & speak english for example.
As for the population getting older and older, why do you think they put so much money on robotic.
They got it all figured out.

A very concise and informative post, but I couldn't help but note one slight, I assume, misprint ".....they bring something japanese nationals can't do, sucking cock...". I believe you have been grossly misled on this most important subject. It is in fact the national sport of Roppongi. They got some hooks there that can suck start a 747. I recommend more field research for you.

Perhaps the test for visa renewal will include sucking a golf ball through 20 ft of garden hose? That should single out the pros...

Do y'all think those three year spouse visa's I get count as a 'long-term visa'?

That would be nasty for some old married cunt to get booted because like me he's too thick to really learn Japanese worth a shit (especially reading and writing).

Does that mean they actually have policies now? I thought visa decisions were made according to horoscopes. Or a game of chance played out in the back room.

Not really a missprint, more of a shortcut if you will.
They do know how to suck cock indeed but there's not nearly enough japanese sex workers to "entertain" all the horny oyajis out there.
That's where the philipinos, peruvian, chinese, eastern-european and russian "entertainers" come in handy.
It's also cheaper "entertainment".
