President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said in a radio address that the fatalities followed a quake measured at magnitude 7.2, according to the Associated Press.

One witness told Indonesian Radio that homes and other buildings had been washed away...

The reports say it is a 1.8 meter tsunami so by comparasion the damage will be smaller than 2005, but I still wouldn't want to be a fishing villager on the south side of Java.

You would have thought a place that took the huge tsunami damage they did before, would have been a little more conscientious this time. They claim since it was in a previously undamaged area, nobody was concerned.

Didn't they try to blame the US for not warning them last time? Who's fault was it this time? I'm sure the people that went heels up doing the back stroke would be interested!

Probably be Bush again!

It has to be the Indonesian government's. I understand that the Thai government learned its lesson and installed a warning system after the '04/'05 tsunami hit. Why didn't Indonesia?

Maybe it was just me, but everything I saw coming from Indonesia seemed to be written for the angle of when is the international aide going to start arriving again? So, why in an event this minor (Gee, it really sounds bad referring to some event that just killed over 500 people as minor), they weren't sending in all of their own resources instead of waiting around, is beyond me. Must be the straw boss AND Bush.
