That's horrible! Can you imagine 50?
48th or 49th maybe, but never 50th!

. . . Aki's father died when she was small, leaving her with an abusive mother]Her fee is 40,000 yen, of which she keeps 25,000 yen. "I do three or four a day," [/B]and she wouldn't mind doing more. "While the guy's on top of me, I just think about what I'm going to eat when it's over. That way I could do 50 a day."

Her goal is to save 2 million yen. With that, she says, she can buy her beloved grandfather a bed suitable for his invalid condition. Her mother, also ailing, will have to fend for herself. "I hate her," says Aki.

Noble goal (and a change from the Gucci-enjo kosai stories) but I can't imagine her grandpa being happy, if he ever found out, about the 80 or more beddings she's had to get him a comfy bed. And with her luck, the evil mother will probably get her hands on it.

:(

I dunno, if not gramps' generation, then a generation or two up the line, he would've thought it perfectly normal to sell her off to some Edo flesh merchant in return for some farm equipment.

Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

that's just sad. one thing's for sure, society & humanity have failed this young lady. i think the most striking line to me was "She was lucky. No one mistreated her; no one offered help, either." sad :(

I hardly consider Japanese youth oppressed. She made her bed and slept in it, so to speak.
