FG Stanley Cup Challenge

Postby canman » Sun Oct 01, 2006 9:51 am

Ok boys and girls the league is up and running. Those of you interested please pm me with an email address and I'll send you an invite to the league. This is a little different from the football league, as there is no real time draft. You have a salary cap of $30 000 000 and you must choose 6 players within that amount. So it is possible to choose the same players, but you can't see what the other managers have done until the beginning of the season. We have three days until the beginning of the season, so please get going if you want to get involved. Hope to hear from anybody interested. You don't have to be a diehard hockey fan, even if you have a casual interest, you are welcome. CM

If I weren't so busy kicking everyone's ass in the FG Bowl, I might actually join this league! :D

Seriously, I don't know enough about hockey to even be remotely competitive for this. I might drop in to see how it goes and maybe learn a little about the game in the process.

Canman, I guess I got my team picked with little time to spare before the season started.

But how come we can both have Iginla? Somehow that doesn't seem right to me.

Gilligan, as I said before this is a different kind of system where you can have the same players as other managers. Hopefully you won't have all the same players, thus making it more interesting.

I hope you can join the more members the better. Isn't that what Mark Foley said?

Just sent you a challenge

Postby canman » Tue Oct 10, 2006 1:03 pm

It looks like you are still able to join. YOu may have missed the first couple of games, but remember there are 82 is a season so its not like the NFL, with only 16. Anyway try the link and see if you can draft a team.

Sorry, I missed that.

Unfortunately, my team hasn't been doing too well. My big mistake was drafting Tim Thomas; boy was that a disaster -- even though I only had him for one game. I'd be doing a whole lot better if I'd started off with Raycroft.

Way to early

Postby canman » Tue Oct 10, 2006 6:19 pm

Hey Gilligan, don't worry about it, it is far too early in the season to worry about your picks. And you can trade and buy new guys if you don't like who you have. I think even though we belong to the FG Stanley cup, we are also a part of the larger pool. Take a look and see.

Yeah, I flipped Thomas for Raycroft almost immediately and have made a few more trades since then. Somehow I've worked it so that all my guys are playing tomorrow, so I'm hoping for some huge points.

I noticed that. It seems like we're playing against all the other people (about 120,00 or so) for something like $19,000 dollars in prize money. Not that I'm figuring to get any.

Personally, I haven't been following hockey too much since the B's got so bad -- and even less since they traded away Jumbo Joe (who was a steal at $7.5 million in the fantasy league), so this helps me get back into it, which I'm happy about.

Season Two

Postby canman » Sun Jan 21, 2007 2:34 pm

Ok, our club was a little light, only three of us, but Gilligan, after a slow start took control of the league and won hands down. Congrats to him.
But now its time for season two, it begins next Saturday night, so you have almost a week to sign up and draft your team. The system is a little different from football, as this time you have a starting salary of 30 million dollars to draft a team from. Anyway the league is called F#cked Gaijin 2
and the password is bikkle. Good luck to all and any who are interested.

Watching the Cup finals with some anticipation these days. Remember vividly Getz going to LA in '88, and the Kings bowing out in five in '93. Right now, Uncle Ted's ditty comes to mind...

I am following like mad. I hope they sweep the devils but even if they don't, they will just extend their away winning streak another game hahaha

Now, if you are the Kings, do you throw this game, go back and win it at home, or just go for it and try to win in New Jersey? I'd like to see the Devils make a series of it yet!

I'll be busy watching the NBA Eastern Finals and the pay-per-view Pacquiao fight. That said, I still know enough about it to know any team would be fucking crazy to throw a Stanley Cup game.

Side note: I love going to see hockey live but like a lot of Americans, I just can't seem to get interested in the NHL on TV. It's an incredible sport so I don't really know why. I watch it closely during the winter Olympics but the NHL just never hooks me.

Well, the Devils have made a series of it! But I still think the Kings will take it in 6! Very good game lots of tension!

I will not start sweating unless the Kings are behind by anything more than 1 goal at the start of the 3rd period of game 6. I will burn my "LA Card" is the Kings lose in 7.

Yep, feel bad for the guy cause there were any number of players on either team with illegal sticks BUT the Kings didn't go reaching for shit like that....the Canadiens used the local popo's to block the hallway and drag the Kings entire stick rack into their locker room for measuring. :ninja: Not only illegal but seriously, how pathetic/desperate can you get?

I find the Taiwanese news coverage of the Stanley Cup entertaining. I was wondering what happened to the King from Burger King....

'93 was my first year in Japan, and at that time there was no coverage of the NHL, and no internet, at least not up here in BF Hachinohe, so i really have no idea what you are talking about. I only remember reading in the good old Japan Times about the glorious Canadiens' victory! Nothing dirty involved.
I think the Kings will win tonight, but since they are a young team, there is a chance they could be tight and not play well. Just hope it doesn't end with some disputed goal, like the Brett Hull goal against Buffalo!
