Do Japanese vacation in Mexico?

Postby Jack » Tue Oct 24, 2006 5:22 am

I know Mexico and Cancun in particular are a long way from Japan. In all the years chasing J-chicks I have only met one that travelled to Mexico on a long roundabout way of getting there because she had a very cheap ticket (it took her over 30 hours to get to Cancun).

Any of you FGs have hear of Japanese vacationing there?

Sure - I'd be willing to help you plan your next family vacation around your pursuit of Japanese ass.

To answer the question - No. Unfortunately Japanese cannot travel to Mexico (especially Cancun). It has to do with their bloodtype and dietry restrictions. You would know this if you'd read your handbook on "Spotting Japanese in the Wild".

I know a J-gal that wants to go to Los Cabos. Hoping to make that wish come true some day. :)

Maybe it is rumoured that Jack goes to Mexico so the J-babes avoid it like the clap.

Damn rare for a Japanese to go to Mexico except for using Mexico City as short lay-over during a South American vacation.
Why?
Mostly it's just poor PR and the fact that wonderful Mexican food is the antithesis of everything Japanese: It's spicey, ugly to look at, and most of all sometimes it has dubious freshness.

The Japanese who have traveled with me there to my family's condo have always suffered badly from the Aztec Two-Step. Other factors include, not as many Japanese speak Spanish, the shopping for fashion is poor there and Mexican men cream in their pants and wolf-wistle at Japanese girls (but the feeling is not reciprocal).

I don't know about now Taro, but I made a couple of trips to TJ when I was in San Berdu and took old what"s her name with me. I was surprised at the number of shopkeeps that quickly came up with a bit of salesman's Nihongo when they realized she was a actual rice burner, not a nisei. That kind of woke me up and I started looking around and saw quite a few J-tourists shopping around there. That of course was before 9-11 and so there wasn't any hassle at the border for J-people. I don't know about now!

Thanks for your comments. It's what I had thought.

The main reason for my question is business related as I was having a small argument with someone claiming that tons of Japanese were on Cancun beaches. Mexico doesn't even figure in Japanese government statistics of outbound tourism traffic and I could not find any reference to in Mexico related to inbound Japan traffic so i have to rely primarily on intuition and anectdotal observations.

Well if that's the reason, I'll let you know what I know. There aren't many Japanese who stay at the hotels on the main drag at Cancun, they tend to be on package tours and stay at the way more upmarket hotels that are a few Km's down south. But at those hotels there are LOTS of Japanese. How do I know this. I've been there a few times and stayed at both locations.

Not a whole lot of Japanese go because there are no direct flights to Mexico DF, Monterey, Guadalajara, etc from Tokyo. You will always have to go through LA, Dallas FW, Atlanta, etc and with that much time spent in the plane, you can imagine how much more practical it is to fly to Hawaii instead.

I once did the Tokyo-Houston-Cancun roundtrip, and that was a fucking long flight. As posted above, why would a J-chick go there when there are tons of beach paradises closer by in the Pacific?

[quote="amdg"]Yes, the Riviera and the Playa del Carmen.

Well, there are lots of interesting ancient Mayan sites to see around the Yucutan, some even near Cancun (such as Tulum, Chitchen Itza) so perhaps, like I was, they were interested in seeing some of these places?

Isn’]

Thanks, I understand.

There was a JAL 747 at Montreal the other day which had disgorged 400 or so J-tourists to see the colourfull leaves in the Laurentian mountains. When you have been everywhere and done everything, I guess some places are never too far away even if it's only to see the fall colours, although in the Laurentians it's darn beautiful even for someone like me who grew up in the area.

Ah, you're from Quebec? I was just in Montreal for a little vacation. Stayed at a nice hotel in Old Montreal, too. Also drove over to Ottawa and then came back down to New York from there. Not a bad drive. Gotta' love the French food in Quebec.

I recommend road tripping to Canada - a nice way to relax and get some good food.

Now TJ is on the route...
Tijuana to Tokyo direct begins
Cheapflights.com
Central American carrier Aeromexico's newest international route between Tijuana and Tokyo has now begun.

The inaugural flight left Tokyo's Narita Airport over the weekend (Saturday, November 17). The service is scheduled to operate twice a week and will also connect Tijuana to Mexico City with an onward flight.

Departing Mexico City originally on Tuesday and Friday, the flights will leave Tijuana International Airport at 1.40am, crossing the international dateline and landing in Tokyo at 6.45am the next day.

Return flights will leave Tokyo Narita on Wednesday and Saturday at 2.55pm, arriving in Tijuana at 7.45am the same day. The onwards service to the Mexican capital is scheduled to land at its destination by 2.35pm.

The Baja town of Tijuana is less than an hour from San Diego and will provide residents living in the region, on both the American and Mexican side, with a significant new international service.

Flights from Japan to North America have risen in popularity in recent years. The number of business passengers has increased on the back on growing international trade and multi-national corporate interests.

Tourism to Mexico from Asia has also risen exponentially. The number of Japanese tourists to the Central American country is expected to top 100,000 in 2006, an increase of almost a fifth.

If the flight is cheap enough, I can choose to fly into TJ and fly into the US via connecting flight or drive up to Los Angeles. We'll see..
