House rental prices in Yokota

Hi all,

I've just landed back in the UK after another short trip to Japan. This time I've decided to pack up and move so I will be moving to Fussa near Yokota airbase (have J-friends there) very soon.

Only thing thats surprised me is the prices. My friend reckons his house with three parking spaces is only 40,000 Yen a month! I thought he meant week but he said...No...per month. Now this sounds crazy cheap to me.

Am I missing something?

Are you sure the parking spaces weren't 40,000 a month? Sounds more like it.

There are some cheap houses here but you get what you pay for.
I used to live in a place for practically free because the owner was just waiting for the "big" land sale to go through and bulldoze the houses on the property. Problem is the place was built cheaply ancooold during the winter.

Not impossible. Housing has been a depressed market out in that area. Also, a lot of houses that were built just to contract to USFJ people at Yokota AB are now empty. The GOJ has built more on base housing for the Yokota AB people, so not as many are living off the base. American Oyaji lived out that way until recently and might have a comment!

You find find cheap houses but you normally get what you pay for in Japan, for example you can rent a Dog Kennel....er...I mean Ho-te-ru for about 3,000 Yen per night

I figured it would be something to do with people living on base. I will double check with my friend but it now looks like I won't be moving til End of January so I have plenty of time to sort things out. Be good to hear from American Oyaji though!

Sorry, in my post I mistakenly wrote American Oyaji. Sorry AO. I meant "Oyajikun", who I believe is most recently departed from the Yokota area! Sorry for the mistake. Must have been the green beer in Paddy Foleys!
