Uno Kanda to marry pachinko bigwig
Mainichi
Popular entertainer Uno Kanda announced on Monday that she will marry the president of a company that owns a string of pachinko parlors.

Kanda, 31, made the announcement during a press conference she gave in Tokyo.

Kanda said that she and the 36-year-old president exchanged betrothal gifts with each other on Nov. 5.

Kanda is well known in Japan and has appeared in many television programs.

....Kanda said that she and the 36-year-old president exchanged betrothal gifts with each other on Nov. 5....

What's this "exchanged betrothal gifts" have to do with anything? It sounds like mutual bribery---Damn, did I miss out on a bribe opportunity?

I suppose this is a florid, polite way to say in Japanese that they officially registered their marriage on Nov. 5 but they did not have a wedding ceremony extravaganza.

BTW... Isn't there a quaint custom in journalism to give the name of husband in a wedding report besides calling him a "36-year-old president pachinko bigwig?

Hey, wait a minute. I know the rest-of-the-story. Since most of pachinko bigwigs are of Korean extraction of the northern variety, maybe Uno Kanda is being coy about marrying the 36-year-old love-child of Kim Jong Il? :nice:

There was a lot of Ahh's and Ohh's when it was announced she had started seeing this dude, but it died out suddenly when it was announced that his nenshu was somewhere around 1,600 oku. For that kinda loot, I'd marry him.

She is still very f*ckable for her age, 35. You can notice wrinkles around her eyes if you ever see her on the big screen HDTV though.

Is "pachinko bigwig" another way of saying "zainichi kita-chosenjin"? The conventional wisdom seems to be that North Koreans in Japan dominate the pachinko biz, and that remittances back home to NK have propped up Li'l Kim's gov't for years and kept him and his buddies in caviar and Cartier.

Actually, that brings to mind a question: Has the Abe gov't stopped the flow of these remittances? If not, any "get tough" measures with NK are pure tatemae.

I met her at a function in Nagoya for the Fair. She is quite attractive, but not a roaring beauty (she photographs well), immaculately decked out in expensive attire (that's her thing), but if she is 168cm, I am 4'll"! She is around 160-162 at best.

But, either of the Kano sisters can deepthroat a fire hydrant, so I woud have to go with them as a matter of principle.

Come on now...What's the real story?

Postby Taro Toporific » Tue Nov 21, 2006 1:41 pm

Getting back to my original question of why did the MDN refuse to print the name of Uno Kanda's husband when even she released the name on her website:
My betrothed that everyone already has reported [is correct], but his work is in the real estate service (rejiyasabisu) industry for the company which he owns. He is Takuro Nishimura.
[rough translation]
Come on now. Something is hinky here. What's the real story?

I've had lunch with Kanda's father a few times since he was a JETRO bigwig*. I never made the connection between Kanda-bucho and Uno Kanda, even though he made a quip that I, "ought to hook up" with his daughter when I said I was a fan of the Moscow Ballet and had several girls of the troupe invited to my New Years party long ago.:wall:
*Kanda-bucho has now jumped the
sinking JETRO ship and he's advanced in METI.

"Click to engorge". Heh. Even normally fairly credulous J-folk wonder why everyone's eyes have black rectangles over them in pics of the respective families. Reading between the lines, it seems a safe bet that Nishimura's a...strictly legitimate businessman.

So sad. So many getting married before I even had a chance of soiling them. Kanda and Fujiwara are both very sexy. But the saddest one of all is that I heard Yada Akiko has also gotten hitched.

Here's an AP story on how pachinko remittances are likely fueling the meth, vuitton, and nuke-fueled lifestyles of NK's elite:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061203/ap_on_re_as/japan_nkorea_pinball_1

No Japanese seems to know whether the huge flow of remittances from pachinko owners to NK has been staunched by Abe's appearence of taking a harder line on NK. Obviously, any sanctions which fail to block these remittances would be completely meaningless.

From the article:
-----
"Yes, there are a lot of ethnic Korean operators, but the industry is not at all concerned about the sanctions issue," said Takaaki Sasaki, spokesman for Zennichiyuren, an industry organization. "We're not hearing about anyone losing business because of the missiles or the nuclear test."

Still, the connection between pinball revenues and North Korea makes some Japanese pachinko players uneasy.

"I used to play frequently, but I don't go so often anymore," Kuzuhara said. "I really don't want North Korea using my money for bombs."
"If there's a river, we'll dam it, and if there's a tree, we'll ram it - 'cause we Japanese are talkin' progress!"

TV ratings for Norika Fujiwara's wedding reach 40 percent in Kansai
Mainichi
TV viewer ratings for the wedding party of actress Norika Fujiwara and comedian Tomonori Jinnai reached 40 percent in the Kansai area and 24.7 percent in Kanto, ratings firm Video Research said Thursday.

Fujiwara and Jinnai tied the knot earlier this year and Nippon TV decided to broadcast their wedding ceremony at the Hotel Okura Kobe on Wednesday night.

About 600 celebrities attended the wedding party. (Mainichi)
