Yen for profits sees banks now charging for coin deposits
The Asahi Shimbun / March 18
It may sound like penny-pinching, but regional banks say hard economic times justify the need to go after every yen to earn revenue. So now they're charging commissions for deposits made with coins.
Five regional banks have already begun charging when bagfuls of coins are presented to tellers.....charging 210 yen for deposits of between 301 and 500 coins, 315 yen for 501 to 1,000 coins and 525 yen for more than 1,001 coins.
