By the wya for those of you who have read it, you know they are now making it into a movie with Tom Hanks as the lead. Here are my picks for the other characters.
Detective Fuache- Jean Reno
Sophie Neveu- Julie Delpy
Teabing- Anthony Hopkins
Just to name a few. Any other ideas?

Send it to BB then BB can send it to me and then we'll put it up for grabs or send it back to you if you still want it, cool?

New this month The Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami.

Thanks to Canman who donated three books to the library recently. They're not available because I haven't read them yet.

A fun read that one (and you'll never look at a woman's ears the same way again) :D

A little light reading for the summer

Postby canman » Thu Jun 23, 2005 11:21 am

I just finished the book Jarhead by Anthony Swofford. Great read about the gulf war. I think it is very appropriate for what is going on in Iraq now.
Also Reefer Madness by Eric Schlosser. The same guy who wrote fast food nation. He writes about Marijuana, illegal aliens and ponography in the US. Also quite interesting for these times. Anyway anybody who wants them give me ashout with your name and address and I'll get them in the mail asap.

I'm no longer willing to mail books out because we're packing everything up now so my books are no longer available. However, I wouldn't mind picking up a piece of non-fiction off of you when up in Aomori, canman. Something for the long trip back to the American south (after 18 years!). Maybe you can pass a book or two my way after buying me a few beers.

I gotta say thanks to everyone who has traded with me and given me stuff. I've gotten books, cds, videos, DVDs, and food stuff from members on this board. All of yall have made my time here more enjoyable. Thank you.`

I've got a nearly brand new HG Wells War of the Worlds ready to send if anyone is interested. I read it over lunch the other day... well a 3 hour lunch. Great book. Just wanted to get up to par so I can have some background into the new movie coming out. :D

New to the FG Book Circle

Postby jungiandreamer » Thu Mar 23, 2006 7:09 pm

Hi all! I am actually looking for a few specific books for my local reading book club.

The Last Playboy

The Time-Traveler's Wife

Also, if anyone has any Borges in Spanish, that would be great.

I have a few I could send out...

The Turning Point by Fritjof Capra

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers

I would recommend that we post lists of a more than just a few books. That way the selection would be a little wider.

Thanks again.

I just saw the movie based on that book.

Excellent film, and I'll have to read the book now.

I’m just finishing up the final book in the Baroque Cycle series by Neal Stephenson, and if anyone else has read it and knows of anything similar, I’d be very interested in hearing your recommendations (nothing by the same author mind you as I’ve read all his stuff). I’m rationing out the few final pages because I don’t have anything else to read after it. So if anyone has a good suggestion I’d do a book swap with you - you tell me what you like and chances are I have something that will be of interest. One thing though, I’d need to get my book back after you’d finished reading it.

As expected, you Asskissdude read only books written in fuckin English.
Gaijin's arrogance alway results from this.
If you live in Japan, read books written in Japanese.
This is order.

I suppose you're now his hanging skeleton in the revine that has entirely rotted with the exception of its tongue, which keeps chanting sultras (probably about Chrysanthemums)?

Not sure if it was discussed, didn't feel like fishing though 100 posts, but Tokyo Vice by Jake Adelstein was a damn good memoir. My friends back home sent me a link to his Daily Show interview, and I picked the book up in Sapporo the next day. Amazing read, and a big eye opener about Yakuza penetration into everything this often fucked up country.

There's a whole thread about it actually (handy forum search function ]http://www.fuckedgaijin.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23806[/url]

Anyone read "I was a Japanese Solider" or "The Yamato Dynasty: The Secret History of Japan's Imperial Family"?
Interesting trivia...
