Rabbits!
Tip-offs on Meat Hope were ignored
Gomiuri
Public health center officials in Tomakomai, Hokkaido, received a tip from a man claiming to be a former employee of Meat Hope Co. in August that the meat supplier had mixed rabbit and chicken in products it labeled as 100 percent beef, but the claim was ignored, sources said Tuesday.

The health center officials neither tried to confirm the accusation nor informed the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry about it.

Together with the handling of similar inside information on wrongdoing by Meat Hope that was relayed to the ministry's Hokkaido agriculture policy planning office, the government missed a number of chances to investigate the meat supplier.

Upon receiving the tip-off, the Tomakomai Health Center contacted the environment and life section of the regional government office in Iburi, which has jurisdiction over food labels, and proposed a joint inspection, based on the Japan Agricultural Standards Law....more...

I not sure what the big deal is about all this. The company's name is Meat Hope for god sake. That by itself should be enough of a warning to any buyer.

Take it to PM, loverboys.

Okay, now that we've gotten to rabbits and ducks, what's next? Coyotes? Tasmanian devils? Elmer Fudds?

I wouldn't be surprised if that autocratic doof of a company president hadn't been pressuring his hapless staff to go catch stray dogs and/or cats and/or foetuses (fetii?) to feed into the grinder.

Meat Hope committed the cardinal sin in business - they got caught cheating.

What's scary is that in all likelyhood many other "meat" companies are doing the same sort of things. And they haven't been/won't be caught. It's not like there is going to be an investigation into the meat biz. It will stop and not go beyond this one company. Mystery meat has never been a more apt term than right here, right now. Enjoy yer yakitori tonite...bon appetite!

Oh Catoneinutica, I love it when you get so forceful!
:blush3:
But other than that, what have they been putting in "minchi" for years? You can't convince me that was always just pork.

Think back to the days of no 100% ground beef. Were there really that many pig farmers?

Hmmm

Yeah, I could tell by your avatar that you'd like it if I got forceful. Who's your daddy?!

Sure, I know that dogs/cats/foetuses/salarymen have ended up in meat grinders since prehistory. That said, it's Japan that so fetishizes the alleged absolute superiority of J-food-quality standards as a pretext for excluding imports. Incidents like this and Snow Brand tend to undermine that claim. Indeed, one suspects the Ag. Ministry deep-sixed the initial allegation against the Man from Meat Hope for this very reason.

I think that's why, with this story, the deeper the shit gets, the happier I become.

And I'm going to make this next statement with the stipulation that no one can make a joke out of it because, let's face it, it would just be tooo easy.

If I can manage to remain blissfully unaware of its true ingredients, I honestly don't care what meat I'm eating as long as it tastes good.
