Happy Canada Day

Postby dimwit » Sun Jul 01, 2007 11:09 pm

For all you canucks out there Happy Canada Day!

Generally, we celebrate it here by getting all my son's friends to set off fireworks. Since Japanese kids find any pretext for fireworks cool it usually is a great sucsess. What about the rest of you?

I'm not Canadian, but it's my birthday. So I'll chug one for your country.

Cheers, eh!

I'm not Canadian and it's not my birthday, so I will chug several for Canada and eighty5er's birthday.

Big time BBQ

Postby canman » Mon Jul 02, 2007 1:37 pm

Every year I have a big time BBQ, with lots of steak, chicken, corn on the cob, and Labatt's. My friend is able to get it on the base. Then I invite a bunch of my Japanese friends and we have a great time. After Christmas, I enjoy Canada day the most.

I can only surmise that the Canucks are desperate to distance themselves from American traditions (like independence from the British Monarchy) since they hold their national holiday 362 days after the American Independence Day holiday.

I didn't do anything this year. Guess I'll have to drink double over the upcoming long weekend! :D

I'm building a house, so hopefully next year we can do the barbeque.

Hey Charles, first you targeted Australians, now you have a bug up your ass about Canadians? What's the deal?

I think Chuck hates most anyone... Which is fine really because as far as I can tell the feeling is mutual.

I have no particular ill sentiments towards Canucks. They are not like ozzies, in that they seem to be no threat to anyone when they leave the confinement of their borders. Sure, they're just like the ozzies in one respect, they are still loyal subjects of the Commonwealth, and thus are the personal property of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. So they are rather like the Royal Corgi dogs, occasionally yapping and nipping at your toes, but with teeth too small to do any damage, and always held on a tight leash. How could anyone feel anything but pity?

The worst, most demoralizing thing anyone can say about the Canadians is what they say to themselves, in their heart of hearts, just as the ozzies do. It is their most fervent wish, a hope for transformation into something of significance, but it cannot be. No, you cannot be an American.

The following (posted 20 October 2004) may give you some indication of how chuckles sees himself:

chuckles wrote: . . . But some things must be sacrificed in order to focus on the really important things in life. It is at a time like this when we can see what things are really important to us, and what is a waste of time. I decided to completely sever my relationship with the one online community I have participated in most heavily, for over a decade, a forum for discussing Japanese language learning. It was my belief that I owed a debt of gratitude to those who helped me learn the language, and I could only repay that debt by helping those students that came after me. But I finally came to the realization that the forum was no longer useful to students, it was full of ridiculous idiots and flamers]more[/URL] (while the link lasts)

I suspect that, 3 years later, the previous online community are still celebrating that departure. Since about that time, chuckles' has "graced" FG with his presence.

It's just a pity that any useful knowledge and experience that he could share is too often tainted by the bigotry that seems to have consumed him.

Apparently you don't understand the artistry involved in fighting bigotry with bigotry. Why do you think I am so merciless on the ozzies? They're the most racist people I ever met. If they encounter totally irrational bigotry towards their own insignificant little country, perhaps they might question their own irrational bigotries.

Ah, but I guess I am expecting too much. It is hardly likely that any ozzie, with their rigid ideas of nationalism, would question their assumptions. So I merely deal with the ozzies as they deal with the world.
The Canadians, on the other hand, I can only lay on self-pity and feelings of inferiority. That's all they've got.

OK, time for one of my favorite Canadian jokes. I remember this one from the old National Lampoon Radio Hour.

Q: What's the #1 song on the top of the Canadian music charts today?
A: Whatever was the #1 song on the top of the American charts 6 months ago.

So we have had three years of chuck-hell and it took 10+ years for the previous board to get rid of him. A depressing thought indeed.
