Translation problem.

Postby ibiza » Wed Aug 29, 2007 8:06 am

Hi everyone!

I was hoping some of you fluent speakers could help me out with something. I'm trying to translate the following into Japanese.

"The statistical differences in the morphology of human mouths found amongst a homogeneous population are similar to the statistical differences found amongst a heterogeneous population."

I was having a conversation with a young lass who mentioned that Japanese have trouble pronouncing certain words because their mouths are shaped different. Ballox!

Sorry dude, my Japanese ain't that good
if you're writing a paper or something I really can't help with that but I could probably give you a broken, less fluent translation.

No, it's not for a paper. I wanted to mention this to her, but even saying it in english is difficult.

The easiest way to express it is just to say, "Your mouth isn't different from a native english speaker's mouth." But I was looking for a more verbose response.

Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

Also, you don't need an analysis of genotypes or phenotypes. Just show her a Japanese who was born in an English speaking country. For some reason they have no problem with pronunciation.

Isn't pronunciation something to do with the ears and ensuring that the brain has registered certain sounds prior to a certain age otherwise you will never be able to hear those sounds let alone pronounce them. That is what I heard anyway!! :p

That is close to the Piaget/developmental psychology theories, that language patterns are mostly acquired by around age 6. But it isn't really about whether you hear the sounds by that age, it's about actively using and producing those sounds, even poorly. Surely you've heard little kids who lisp their Rs or Ls but grow up to speak well as adults.

So that's what's wrong with my hearing. It must have been damaged by all those tongues stuck in my ears!

So, did you mannage to convince her of the error of her ways?

Yeah, I thought not. You need to take a more scientific approach - I propose you take a personal assay of her oral cavity using your penis. It's the only way to be sure.

Just tell her that if she can deep throat you, then she'll have no problem with her r's and l's.

Why the hell is she so worried about pronouncing l's and r's anyway? It's not like anything she is likely to say will be worth listening to. She should concentrate on her cock sucking skills first and foremost.
