Telegraph: Japanese harpoon ship captures UK protester
Japanese whalers have captured two environmental campaigners, including a Briton, and are holding them on one of their harpoon vessels in waters just off Antarctica. Giles Lane, 36, from Cuckfield in West Sussex, and Australian national Benjamin Potts have been held by the crew of the Yushin Maru No 2 since 6.30pm Tuesday local time, according to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Sea Shepherd staff claim the men had been tied to the radar mast of the Japanese ship but the Japanese Whaling Association denied this. "They have been out there for a couple of hours already and it's freezing," said Jonny Vasic, international director of Sea Shepherd's operations, based in Melbourne. "It does not get really dark that far south at this time of year, but the wind will be getting to them and it will be very uncomfortable." The two men are wearing one-piece luminous protective suits, but that will only protect from the elements for so long, Mr Vasic said. "Their hands will be freezing and this is dangerous"...more...

If they make them walk the plank, do you think the whales will save them? :D

They should harpoon those Sea Shepherd fuckers and throw them into the Arctic waters with an anchor around their necks.

I hate it when a bunch of conservationists ruin a good harpooning picnic........

Anyone want to wager who whines like little bitches more about this: the J-whalers or the conservationists?

Giles Lane deserves it on name alone. They should be sticking their noses into other peoples business. Here the antiwhalers are up in arms...who do you think they would save first, their colleague, or the whales?? Anyway, they have obviously been behaving badly to be that close to a whaling ship to be captured. Silly buggers should be used as whale bait now.

There's about 50 seconds of footage on the SSCS site of the initial boarding and subsiquent capture of them.
http://www.seashepherd.org/
a few photo's there too.

No doubt they could have done it a bit better if they wanted attention without attitude. Don't see how acid would have affected the boats with the paint that's used on them.

Still, whaling needs to stop.

Just got this in an email... Whales Revenge..

It is mainly a petition site. People thinking that a petition is going to stop whaling.

But it has a fun little flash game that will distract you from work for about 10 minutes.

Good god, even in their own game the greenpeace/activist boats are irritating, in the way and don't actually accomplish a damn thing.

Also are the "japanese" people who fly out of the whaling boats wearing rice pickers? Nice little bit of racism there.

CNN) -- Australian authorities said Thursday that a customs vessel would pick up two activists currently aboard a Japanese whaler in Antarctic waters, news reports said.

The reports came as an anti-whaling group accused the crew of a Japanese vessel of kidnapping two activists who climbed on board the ship to try to stop its whaling operations in the Southern Ocean.

The incident caused Japan to contact the Australian government to help arrange the return of the two activists, The Associated Press reported.

Australian citizen Benjamin Potts and British citizen Giles Lane -- both members of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society -- came on board the Yushin Maru No. 2 on Tuesday.

They tried to deliver a letter saying the vessel was violating international law and Australian law by killing whales.

Reuters: Japan whalers say Australia should detain protesters
Japanese whalers accused the Australian government on Saturday of ignoring international commitments and going easy on two activists who were returned after boarding a Japanese harpoon ship. In response, the Australian government said it returned the two Sea Shepherd Conservation Society activists to their protest boat, Steve Irwin, at the request of the Japanese government. An Australian fisheries icebreaker picked up Australian Benjamin Potts and Briton Giles Lane and returned them to the Sea Shepherd vessel on Friday. The Japan Whaling Association said Australian customs had given the men "first-class delivery" back to their ship. "Government of Australia should have detained the two illegal intruders and held them on board the Oceanic Viking for investigation of their criminal activities, but it is obvious they would rather assist Sea Shepherd with its violent illegal actions against Japan's perfectly legal research program," said the association's president, Keiichi Nakajima...more...

I got that whale is angle who go between god and human for anti-whalers.
When they say that whale's IQ is higher than human's one, they imply it consciously or unconsiously.
In other words, anti-whaling is a remnant of natural theology.
nothing but religiion pretending to be science.
And needless to say, this is stealthy connected into racism.

You might be onto something there. My pops used to tell me that the most ardent supporters for the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII were whales, before they (the whalemen) carted him off to the funny farm. Those sounds that whales make underwater are signals to control people into feeling sorry for the whale's plight. They already control all of Australia. The whales want to kill all Japanese, they hate Japanese, and subconsciously desire to grow sharp teeth embedded in their baleen to chomp on Japanese surfers in Shonan.
Today, they will devour all the plankton, until there is none left for you and me....then it is only a matter of time until their genetically conserved carnivorous tendencies are unleashed. The Whale God will dethrone the Crysanthnum and make all Japanese citizens slaves of the Humpback Crown. Your end is coming soon, Takechan, and there is nothing you or your puny self-defense forces can do about it....now witness the power of this fully-armed and operational Cetacean. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
