Leaving Japan, advice and suggestions

Postby Oradea » Sun Feb 17, 2008 6:55 pm

I will be leaving soon, and wanted some advice opinions on a few things.

1)I have to go to city hall and pay residential tax, having been here 8 years, I have to pay for this years tax or last years?

2)Moving back to the uk, im gonna get a transformer, im taking electrical goods, tv pc dvd, wii. I can buy one transformer, probably im gonna get a 1KV one for about 13000 yen. I can stick my japanese extension cord in that, and run my gear from there right? As long as the wattage adds up?

3)Im currently searching for a company to transport my stuff by ship. Im checking out shipmates, seibu unyu, pakmail and kuroneko. Anyone have any experience with these companies? Or can you recommend another better?Im looking for cheap rather than fast.

4)I hand my gaijin card over at the airport?

5)I have filled a tax return, through my company every year, each year receiving a paltry 30-40000 yen back. There are companies out there claiming to be able to get me big tax returns. I have been paying national insurance and pension. Any reputable companies that can help with that.

6)I fully intend to return to japan in the future.

If you can help with advice on some of this, thatd be greatly appreciated, and if theres anything you think i may have forgotten, or im not aware of, please let me know.

Cheers
