Blue Beer

A microbrewery in Abashiri City, Hokkaido has developed a new happoshu called Ryuhyo Draft using water from melted ice floes (hence the 流氷 in the name) and pigment from local seaweed to give it a blue hue. I wonder if it tastes better than Hotate (scallop) Draft?

This is similar in both appearance and I assume taste to what the Inuit drink up in Davis Inlet, except there they call it antifreeze.

and blue beer? dont they know that there are plenty of tried and tested good recipes out there that they could be perfecting?
milk beer, seaweed beer, scallop beer.. fuck!
i was actually very pleased with what the big breweries would do over in japan, kirin in particular had quite a few different smaller-run beers, some i noticed appeared to be bottle conditioned (a thin layer of dead yeast at the bottom of the bottle).. many microbrews, however, fell short and lacked any real character.. and by character, i definitely do not mean adding green seaweed or other gimmicks to hide their shitty brewing behind.. the whole reason the microbrew thing went off in the states was because they are producing quality beer that people dont mind paying a bit more for.. i dont think you could win customers over with a gimmick..
but then again, i have often found myself amazed by the actions of consumers (especially in japan...)

Sorry to resurrect a very old thread, but I do so as a public service in case some unforunate decides to go out and buy this drek based on Rocket News' glowing praise.
I was victimized by this swill a couple of years ago and it really tastes like daikon. Daikon with a nasty aftertaste that just never quits. Possibly the worst microbrew I have ever tried.
