Hmmmm.... I suspect I'm somewhre between 2 and 3...but I am about to become a Japanese teacher in Australian high schools....i think it is a comfortable enough distance to keep from becoming cynical....it depends on my J-wife

I made it to stage four. And that's not a good thing.
I happen to recall when I first landed, I was so happy to be in Japan, so amazed at everything. If I saw another whitey, I'd rush across traffic to greet him!
Now I keep my eyes on the ground and trudge to work.
