At 6:24pn it was Point 6 on the Japanese scale of magnitude in north of Tokyo in TOKHO-ken, Sendai NHK's live cam showed ROCK 'n' ROLL.... nmo injuries reported yet (6:40pm) Somewhere is claiming M7! Sendai City in Aobu-ku is showing fires live on-air on the NHK.

What a way to ruin my dinner! Just finishing up, and we got a special treat some shake and bake for dessert. It was a strong 5 on the Japanese scale here in Hachinohe. Pretty scary stuff. I see there is a fire in Sendai now, not nice at all.

There have been 30 aftershocks since 7pm .... but maybe not as bad as the M7 indicates.

damn, thats the biggest quake/aftershock i've felt here, at the end of todays classes, in nango jusan chome.. that really was kinda scary, even the students were rather shocked.. good job the big ones up north are mostly out to sea, or so i hear.. there are some nasty cracks in the pavements around dowtown sapporo tho..

You know if that had been a little closer to the surface none of us would be writing on this board. Or at least none of us who are here in Tohoku at least. This is the second big earthquake we have had in my ten years here. The first was just a few weeks before the Kobe quake, and it was over shadowed, and rightly so after that one hit. But that time, I was hoping we wouldn't have another. Well we did but luckily the damage was light, here at least. I was just asking my wife about our insurance, and it seems that the only way to collect is if the whole house is destroyed, and falls down. If one or two walls are still standing the insurance company will not pay out in full, and the money you do get is only a pittance of what is needed to repair your house. I really hope that this is it for earthquakes for a while. Our house is three years old, and I have another 17 years left to pay for it, I don't need any extra debt at this time.

dude, if you want to know what war is like? Experience a LARGE earthquake.

Danger everywhere and death is imminent.

Makes one believe in God REAL quick. Big earthquakes are scary.

No where to run. The fate of one's behind is no longer in one's hands.

As for that earthquake in Hachinohe that canman1 was talking about, I was there when it happened too.

Howerver I was on Misawa Air Base. 4th floor of dorm 671. Everybook (about 50) I had came all the shelves, my roomates video collection (extensive, close to 300) fell on the floor.
He grabbed his TV and I ran to the doorway and prayed. Scaffolding attached to our building fell down. All the tiles in the ceiling of the bowling alley fell down. The power to the WHOLE base was knocked out for hours.
Lots of damage. Wife's (fiance at the time) families water and power was knocked out and they were in Hachinohe.
The most scared i've been in my life. I swore off drinking after a drunk driving accident. That quake drove me back to drinking.
