Nishimura-san was also mentioned in this thread - WWII Battle For New Guinea - after the remains of 4 more fallen Japanese were discovered on the Kokoda track.

While it's honourable to keep a promise to fallen comrades, it seems a bit odd that it took 35 years before he started and then he turned his back on his own wife & kids to do so. Maybe I need to read the book.
