Her web site says her father is igirisu-jin, which could mean English, Welsh, Scottish, or Northern Irish. I suppose we could throw the Irish in while we are at it, too.
Maybe an igirisu-jin will clear that up. What do Japanese people mean when they say igirisu?

I'd guess UK, but it sounds like an approximation/corruption of England.

She is a half Brit. She went to the U, with one of my kids (I can't remember which one).

The word has it's origin in the Portuguese word for England but today it means Britain in Japan. Eikoku is also often used which can lead people to think that the Igirisu/Eikoku is the same distinction as England/Britain but that's not the case.

Also, Rengo Ookoku (連合王国)is used the same way to mean everything from the Empire to the Commonwealth, or in Mulboyne's case Wales.

Luna Shimada, winner of the Best Female Magician / Cabaret Artist award at the 2007 World Magic Awards. She's the daughter of Japanese magician Haruo Shimada and his Australian wife, Deanna:

Her agency site says " In the tradition of her father, Shimada, Luna performs a dazzling number with Parasols which her father began in his early career. Although, the parasols are Japanese by tradition, Luna has taken the theme to another level, magically producing these parasols from thin air with her bare hands, weaving it into a magical dance of colorful images and designs."

marie (mah-ree-ay) digby. heard about her recently on NPR. half j + half irish-american. Famous for an acoustic cover of rihanna's "umbrella" on youtube (like the dirty vegas' acoustic version of 'Days Go By,' it's so much better than the original). just has her first album out, quite the feat considering she began from just uploading youtube vids. 2nd vid shows she's keeping the family connections going.

^ Thanks for that traycerb.

Here's a video clip of hafu comedy duo Love Drive - Jiro Nishizawa (he usually calls himself Paruten) has a Scottish father and Japanese mother while Daigo Yasuoka is Russian-Japanese. Their whole schtick is about being hafu:

It's a curious piece where the two tell the audience that even though they don't look completely Japanese, they are Japanese. There are no subtitles but the main part of the routine features Jiro describing his background. He shows a picture of his Scottish father who he says is a well-known soccer hooligan regularly in trouble with the police. The Wiki entry on the duo says that this led the couple to divorce because his father had his passport confiscated and couldn't leave Britain. His mother remarried and had a daughter with her new husband who is Japanese. He shows a picture of his sister and says how she calls him "gaijin" when she's annoyed. She currently has a Canadian boyfriend so Jiro says that she's following in her mother's footsteps.

New Hafu celebrity born under the pen of Hayao Miyazaki

Postby omae mona » Tue Jul 15, 2008 7:38 pm

Hayao Miyazaki is apparently addressing the topic of growing up hafu in his soon-to-be-released film Gake no Ue no Ponyo. Now, this being Miyazaki, of course he's not making a movie about Becky. There is a twist.

http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/ff20080711a1.html
The title character, Ponyo (voice by Yuria Nara), is a girl fish with a human face who decides one day to leave her underwater home ... Meanwhile, her human father, Fujimoto (George Tokoro), who lives in an undersea manse with Ponyo's sea-queen mother (Yuki Amami), starts to search for her. With his long hair, beaky nose and tormented, bags-under-the-eyes expression, Fujimoto looks like a decayed aristocrat from a shojo manga...

The results of Miyazaki's little DNA experiment:

She's gotan album out now which includes that cover. This Japanese article says goes to Kumamoto every year for Obon and regards it as her "second hometown". She'll be playing live in Omotesando Hills on the 23rd of the month.

Wow. Even though two short YouTube clips is not enough to judge someone, that Marie Digby seems like the perfect woman - smart, talented, beautiful, nice personality - the total package. Move over Utada, here comes Marie! :love2:

Akemi Katsuki was apparently born in China (many reports say Brazil but her own blog says otherwise) of Japanese and Brazilian parentage. Brought up in Tokyo, she moved to Hong Kong and soon became a top model for a number of major campaigns in Taiwan where she is now based.

I caught a segment on TV recently which featured presenter Sarah Backhouse. I was sure I'd seen her somewhere before but the name didn't ring a bell. It was beginning to niggle so I checked the net and it turns out that I'd seen her when she went by the name "Seera" while presenting on the Sci-Fi Channel. She was the main face in 2001 of a short-lived programme called "Saiko Exciting" which focused on Japanese pop culture. Her bio says that she was "born in Edinburgh to an English father and Japanese mother. Thanks to her father's academic career Sarah spent her youth in the UK, Australia and Japan". The Sci-Fi channel tried to present her as a Japanese cyber-chick but, once she moved to more mainstream TV work in the US, she didn't need that look and I suspect the average viewer today wouldn't necessarily assume she had any Asian parentage. The YouTube clip below shows a selection of some of her presenting work:

[floatr]Image[/floatr]You might call Kaori Kawamura an older version of Anna Tsuchiya: both are half-Japanese and half-Russian and both are singers with punky personas. 37 year old Kawamura is in the news for sad reasons. She discovered she had breast cancer a couple of years ago but treatment appeared to be successful. However, she has announced on her blog (Japanese) that the cancer appears to have returned with traces also in her lungs and bones. Here's one of her old videos:

You can start searching the internets for Ozawa Maria. She recently broke out in doing an uncensored video (most definitely NSFW). God bless.

Most of Half's faces look like Arab ones.
This is the reason why I am not interested in Half's women.
I prefer "pure" Japanese women to Half's ones.

You mean PURE in the sense that there is Chinese, Korean and Mongolian ancestry in all pure Japanese women?

Really take, as TFG asked, what's a "pure" Japanese? An Ainu? A hairy, sweaty Jomon type, as you've described yourself to be? A Yayoi (ie, Korean) type, as the J-royal family tend toward?

Yeah, the term HAAFU is based in Japanese racialism and they are too ignorant to comprehend it.
By the way, the chick in the bathtub is very sexy....She indeed does have that Persian sexy appeal to her.
Obviously Taketanpon and his gang prefer the submissive, weak looking type of woman so they can play out their domination thing on them.
They know that they couldn't do it with a real woman.

You first have to assume they can get a woman, or want one, for your theory to come in to play with the Take no ko's.

Werd. For fuck's sakes, this isn't the post-WWII Showa period anymore. I prefer such words as "double," "mixed," "crossbred," "thoroughbred," and along that line.
