Well it doesn't come out officially until June 7th, though it was previewed in Kobe today..

I just saw the sneak preview at a Virgin Cinemas in Tokyo. The movie kicks ass, of course. But what the hell was that rave scene all about? Totally irrelevant to the movie, I thought.

Matrix is big here, but maybe not as big as in the US. The previews were sold out at 6 & 7 PM, but the 10:30PM showing was half-empty. It will still bring big audiences once it opens June 7th.

For those who have seen the movie--did you understand everything the Architect said?

I just saw it yesterday and thought it was a great, satisfying movie. Of course it can't be as fresh as an original- but that's in the nature of making a sequel.

When I was in Japan in 2000, the Matrix seemed to be on permanent play in every demonstration DVD player I saw in stores. It just looked that good.

Yes, that was the one redeeming part of the movie.

I wasn't dissapointed, but I came in with low expectations. Of course, some of them were right. I figured the special effects and CGI would be over done. Did they really have to slow down that many scenes? In the first 5 minutes it was like every 10 seconds would be slow motion time.. wtf? Also, the rave scene.. Thankfully there was some plot, so it wasn't just a bunch of computer generated scenes strung togethor (well, not only.)

Yes, that was the one redeeming part of the movie.

The other redeeming part from what I hear was it was the first Hollywood movie with accurate hacking...Trinity using Nmap.

why is this series so popular? the writers ripped of so many other works and film conventions in the 1st movie, and , really apart from some new filming techniques, all that was left was some nice design, a plot so shabby that a child should be insulted by it..

i`d agree with Gibson's thoughts on tech and the LA riots.. sci/fi films like the matrix franchise are way out of date imho

seeing Rydell and co on screen , now that i`d pay for.. or some ideas from that guy who wrote snow crash..

I think Matrix hit at just the right time, 1999 when we thought the internet would save us all, back before it turned into a big porno store, at the same time we wondered about our futures as human beings. How would the internet change us? We did adapt to long-term digital relationships quite nicely despite the dire predictions.

There is nothing new under the son. The Matrix movies take mythologies and histories and dramatic science fiction ideas and wraps it into a fresh appealing package. Most people like the movies.

The oft mentioned and berated "rave" scene was not a rave, but a defiant humanity shaking its collective fist at an implaccable foe. No racial or geopolitical boundary BS, just pure humanity. No one saying this aint my kinda music or nothing. It was more worship of the collective self of humanity than rave dancing IMHO

If you feel let down by Reloaded and want something similar, yet more satisfying, check out "Equilibrium." It barely had a showing when it came out last fall, and never got the praise or attention it deserved. It opened on 301 screens in the US, had that many for two weeks, then dropped to 26 for it's last week. Such a shame, but it'll get a new life on DVD.

It's been panned by some as a Matrix ripoff, but doesn't have that much in common with the Wachowskis' work. It's kind of Fahrenheit 451-ish and 1984-esque, with some of the nicest fight choreography I've seen in a long time. No bullet time, and no "wire fu."

Check it out. It's sure to please.

I too was at the sneak preview on Saturday night - didn't see you there Kamome..

But then I didn't see a whole lot as I was in the third row from the front.

I thought it was certainly not as good as the first one - but was not dissappointed overall. I would have liked to see more of the one-on-one fighting rather than a zillion agent Smith's and Neo (superman).

I would like to see it again because I think like the first one I will get more out of the second viewing.

But as it is a trilogy, the comparisons to the second (and 5th) Star wars are apparant - a larger love aspect. But I hope that Matrix 3 will be a serious kick butt movie.

$250,000 wasn't enough for an insignificant role as Tank had to play. Link was in that movie all of 4 lines..

Well having had some *very* small part in such negotiations (on behalf of Chisato) I know that money is also used as a *star* barometer.

Getting certain future parts is sometimes depended not on how good you are but how much you were paid (that is what you are worth to another studio) in your last movie.

Part greed yes but I think the guy was just playing the hollywood star game.

Just the excitement of being in that movie would be enough for most people.

But if you are hollywood bound, I guess it would be best to get the most out of it..

I thought that too but then so much was spent on 'effects' and the two big name leads that I expect there just wasn't much left over for the rest of the cast.

Also 'Matrix' was not the sure-fire success that 'Reloaded' was.

All in all it's paid off for Reeves though, he's in the 20 Mill per pic bracket now. Now there's a 'whoa' if ever there was one
