Boy, that was a long time between posts. Anyway, I've been listening to a lot of Chihiro Onitsuka lately. After discovering her new albums, I had to go back and buy all her old ones. If you get a chance, check out the PV for Infection.

heh kewl, more pls ^^

still undecided whether rip slyme are a hilarious unknowing parody, or just plain quality, either way, hard to keep them off the md..

hitomi yaida also has a great voice when she gets to use it..

but nothing can ever top go!go!7188 for changing a mood around.. what a great kick ass band..

btw, did anyone manage to leech/preserve the files from that oldies site? or know anyone that did?

rare music recommendation

Postby jingai » Wed Jun 11, 2003 2:15 am

I grabbed plenty from oldies.jp while it was around.

For strange electronic music, check out Aki Tsuyuko ("Ongakushitsu")
Cornelius' wife, Takako Minekawa also has some etherially strange music. I recommend "Cloudy Cloud Calculator."

For rocking group sounds, check out Kayama Yuzo and the Launchers

Acid Mothers Temple does some modern psychedelic music- quite cool.

yayayyay! sweet !

really thanks for ALL the band names!

i use winxpro so have ime , no hassles inputting, well if the wife does it that is ^^

one thing i`d love to get into is novelty or comedy records, there was something about them on tv last nite.. and i`d love to get hold of these tunes for example:

"toki ni wa shofu no yo ni"

and

"uchi no nyobo nya hige ga aru" - i heard my mum in law take the piss out of my sister in law with this song , something about "my wife has a beard"

damn, there must be so many funny songs like this, and novelty records, i remember seeing one on travellers in the uk years ago, something about "machigai telephone number, oooh mistake oooo!" which was hilarious... anyone know of any compilations of this sort of stuff? or even what do the japanese call novelty or comedy records?

another question, a friend of the wife has a ton of old cassettes *remember them?* of music and stuff from the radio, i have a soundblaster audigy pro here, with all sorts of ways to connect devices, what is the best way to connect a tape recorder/hi fi to it and is there any good software that could take the input and record to wav or mp3?

sorry for all the questions and all, but the music here is getting as interesting as the tv ^^

If you click on Settings | Appearance | Change Dynamic Font and then select a font that uses a Japanese script, like MS PMincho, the kanji will show correctly.

has anyone bought the one night rock n roll cd? is it any good or are there only a few good tracks?

got an Issa cd today from book off , he kind of kicks in a mild way, not the same way B'z do, but good nonetheless..

i'm still reeling at how mature, and the depth of emotion BOA puts into her song "duvet" i can't believe how she gave that performance.. what a shame her company get her to put out the crap she normally has to sing..

i got an old looking dj krush cd too, mostly good stuff, i know he and cornelius and ken ishi have played in london countless times, but always seemed to miss them .. think last time i missed ishi was at ulu, the previous time i missed him was under the arches at subterrania, ladbroke grove.. i wonder if mtv would send me a dvd or tape of that special they did with him about 5 or 6 years ago?..

will splash out a few hundred yen at the 100 yen shop tomorrow if they still have those oldie cds knocking around.. !

If you can find it...

HIROSHI ULTRA

is a favorite. He made an entire album using only his mouth....and it sounds like real intruments...

and it's pretty good music....though I don't know if there is more than one album....

cheers, i`ll look out for the dude! theres a few excellent vinyl places dowtown and some of them have a shelf, a box even sometimes, and a while ago i spotted a box of old cds on the back shelf of one , wasnt sure if they were for sale or they belonged to the staff, and tried a "chotto, ii'ska?" and lo and behold grabbed a few ken ishi tracks i'd been after for 2 years or so.. and some more recent stuff like the b-dash cd and the latest from m-flo..

had a very surreal experience exploring the suburbs around my area leading to kikusui and toyohira river on sunday listening to some fantastic plastic machine /cornelius/ old rip slyme and grabbed some good photos, it was .. affected.

I agree with Pizzicatoblue, early Boom Boom Satelites are cool. Also Phat's first and third album are good (the second is ok, after that, I can't say).

If you like the weird a capella stuff, check out another Japanese artist -Dokaka. He's got freely downloadable MP3s on MP3.com and IUMO.

Links in this thread

Oh yeah, he's looking for bandmates too, no matter what country they're in.
