For those who couldn't make out the audio, the guy dropped his iPhone onto the tracks and was worried the Yamanote line would run it over before the station employees retrieved it.

Nah. The video was uploaded on June 26th, and the "more info" claims the incident took place on June 25th. If it was an iPhone, it certainly wasn't a Softbank iPhone 3G.

And really, who'd jump on the tracks over a 2G iPhone? ;)

I must say that people showed remarkable restraint in not mob kicking the guy's ass for delaying everyone from getting to their hostesses and izakayas. I'm just jeaous that I wasn't there to video tape this stuff. Whenever I bring the vid camera, nothing happens. When I don't bring it, good stuff happens.

Damn dude

Long time no see.

I like the way the subway workers had to do the police work.

That sounded like a sumo match.

Sorry. :(

Maybe you should've said "LG Prada Phone" instead? I would've laughed out loud at a dude jumping onto the tracks for one of those and not even bothered to look at the date on the video. :)

Unless the phone or whatever landed exactly on one of the rails, which is like one in a million chance it would ever do, the object will not disintegrate into oblivion. They should pass laws to punish people for delaying trains. If it is a suicide that stopped trains and the assailant dies from it, then go after the family members. Go after the kids or if a NEET-kun loser, then go after the parents that he lived off for the financial damages caused by the train delay.

That is a tad harsh - that guy was in a total mental episode. He doesn't care about punishment and neither do suicides. Threat of harsh punishment wouldn't have prevented this.

How about look at the treatment options and care for mental illness? Fix these and the result of this will be far fewer train delays due to suicides and people freaking out like this.

Punish willful damage* that causes train delays for sure, but some compassion and assistance for the mentally ill would go along way in solving more problems than train delays.

* Willful damage = interferring with the train operations as a prank or vandalism or even relating to drunken behaviour.

Gomi, I guess I should have watched the video first to make that comment. To me, this is just another classic moment for a Japan nutcase, and there are plenty of those around. I agree that Japan lacks good mental healthcare for those who need it but I believe that topic is better off on another thread of its own.

Back to the video, I wonder if that J-dude with a tantrum was Takechamp, himself. Also notice that it happened at the rear of the train so he must have jumped after the train had already stopped. That was amazing how it took 4 or 5 guys to subdue this otaku dude.

4 or 5 to subdue him safely without hurting him or getting hurt.
