I accidentally answered the door when it was the NHK collector, and this time he wanted over 80,000 yen for all the years I haven't paid. Sheesh.

I tried explaining I rarely get home to watch crappy JP TV, and that the stuff NHK employees get up to, such as insider trading, would get me locked up for years, but it must be blame foreigner month or something and he was relentless with his non-stop mumbling (do they train them to do that?), most of which I couldn't understand except for some vague sort of threat of legal action or something-or-other, and so damn hard to get rid of that I finally just had to close the door while he was talking.

Anyway, I didn't think NHK could sue you for non-payment, but maybe they are going after people now?

Have you ever paid NHK, even once? Did you ever fill out one of their forms or sign your name to anything the NHK man gave you? If you have then you have a contract with NHK and yes they could sue you. They have pursued a few Japanese through the courts as examples in the past year or so.

If you don't have a contract with NHK then I'm not sure where things stand. You are still breaking the "law" but since the law itself seems to have no teeth I have no idea what options they have.

Just call NHK and tell them this wanker came out and demanded 80 big ones and this after you've been paying every month. Demand to see where your money has gone. Accuse them of ripping you off and threaten to go to the press and tell them you know that the press will support you because of all the scandals and crooks that have been uncovered in their company.

You probably will never see another NHK man during your time in Japan and if you do he'll run as soon as he sees you.

When i was living in Japan one of these NHK guys came over to our dormitory and asked me whether i have tv or not. I had one but lied and said that i havent one. At that time i didnt even know that you have to pay for television like in Germany ans Austria. Fuck you GEZ you wont get any money from me!

When I lived in Japan I used our PC as our Tv. Always been a computer geek so of course I had to have the ALL in Wonder. When the NHK guy came a knocking my wife happily showed him that we only have a computer. Case closed. What about the people who have TV on their keitai? Are they going to be charged too?
