futon education

Postby alphanumeric » Wed Sep 03, 2008 7:49 am

can someone explain shiki kake and whatever else futon lingo to me? The wife wants one and I'm thinking about getting a set for her. Jlifeinternational.com sells them for about $300 made in USA; a store here in NYC sells made in japans for $400.

You know how women work. Let her pick the futon or she'll never be satisfied. You pay whatever it costs, no matter if it's the most expensive one.

Charles is right. (The Reagan avatar goes pretty well with the statement, "You know how women work.") When I was just starting working and didn't have any money, I still shelled out a little more for a wool FU-ton (American folding-sofa style). It seemed to hold up pretty well for a long time, and didn't turn into rock, like the the cotton ones seemed to.

There was a wholesaler in Seattle that was importing futons from Indonesia. Apparently, there were some dormant micro-critters in the fabric/filling, because customers were sleeping on them and waking up with nasty rashes. Folks' sweat apparently activated the little bastards.

[quote="james"]what a misleading title ]You don't have to worry about that. It will soon become more of a "futon talk" discussion.
