A Japanese company says it has invented an airbag to prevent elderly people from injuring themselves when they fall.

The makers say the device can be strapped around the waist and will inflate in a tenth of a second if it detects that the person wearing it is accelerating towards the ground.

The airbag weighs just over a kilogram and protects the back of the head and the hips
