Taxi Driver Murders

Postby Mulboyne » Wed Dec 31, 2008 5:39 pm

Asahi: Another taxi driver found slain
A taxi driver was found stabbed to death here Tuesday morning, a day after a cab driver was found slain in neighboring Hyogo Prefecture. A passer-by found Toshiharu Goto, 67, on the driver's seat of his car around 7:25 a.m. He was bleeding and his legs were sticking out of the half-open door, police said. Goto had been stabbed several times, mainly on the right side of his throat. The wallet in which he kept cash from fares was gone. The taxi meter indicated a fare of 4,900 yen.

Osaka Republic! You do have some redeeming qualities Take.

See, now what I would have done in that situation, after the first hit, was pull the taxi over, pop the trunk, grab the tire iron and handicap those motherfuckers, then back the taxi up several times over their sorry, cripple asses. Where has the samurai spirit gone?

Yeah, the driver in that video didn't seem to fight back much. Does anyone know is he might have been more worried about getting screwed by self defense laws than making sure he retained his face?

The driver was kind of stupid because the guy next to him was getting really belligerent before anything physical happened. He should have stopped the car immediately, gotten out, and called the cops. And he definitely shouldn't have stayed in the car in a totally vulnerable position while telling them there's a security camera and making a call to the police. He's lucky no one pulled out a knife.

I agree...

...but if you notice closely, the whole incident probably could have been avoided if the driver didn't freak out about the guy touching his seat. Instead, he got scared and made a big deal about it, and that made the guy (obviously drunk) get a whole lot more defensive and nastier. He even asked if there was a problem for touching his seat, and the driver tells him there's a security camera - which is where the drunk guys go right off their nana.

Yeah, but it is his cab and the guy did actually put his hands on him. I wouldn't want someone suddenly and unexpectedly touching me when I was driving either. He could've handled better though.

Did you notice that the guy in the back is only wearing socks which means he took his shoes off before kicking the seat. I love how well behaved the Japanese are even when they're misbehaving.

It's almost like there is an attack every day at the moment in Osaka. One guy or copycat I wonder?

Yomiuri: 3rd cabbie knifed; serial robber suspected
A 61-year-old taxi driver was slashed in the neck with a knife and robbed on a prefectural highway in Matsubara, Osaka Prefecture, early Monday, police said. The incident followed two murder-robbery cases--in Inamicho, Hyogo Prefecture, and Higashi-Osaka, Osaka Prefecture--on Dec. 29 in which taxi drivers were found dead with their throats cut. The latest incident occurred only about 12 kilometers north of the site of the Higashi-Osaka assault. In both cases, there was no acrylic partition separating the driver's seat and the rear passengers' seat, and the driver was attacked from behind. The police suspect the same attacker was involved in both cases. The police will investigate whether there is a connection between the Inamicho case and the two Osaka cases.

Mainichi: Asahi Shimbun delivery agent charged with attempting to murder taxi driver
A part-time worker for Asahi Shimbun's delivery agent in the Osaka Prefecture city of Ibaraki was arrested on Tuesday night in connection with an attack in which a taxi driver was slashed in the neck in the city of Takatsuki. Haruki Kyo, 24, a part-time worker at "ASA Ibaraki," a delivery agent for the Asahi Shimbun, was arrested on Tuesday by Osaka Prefectural Police and Takatsuki Police Station on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery. He allegedly stabbed the neck of Hideyasu Asada, 33, a taxi driver with "Mitsubishi Taxi," in Takatsuki, Osaka Prefecture, in the early hours of Tuesday. "I learned about the murder-robbery of taxi drivers in the newspaper, and came up with the same idea," he told police. Kyo is quoted as saying that he has debts of about 2 million yen with a consumer loan company..."He will be fired as soon as the facts can be confirmed," Asahi Shimbun's Osaka headquarters commented...more...

LMAO! Help signs do nothing when you're dead. Plexiglass for all taxis would greatly reduce the problem.

Is SOS recognized or known in Japan? I live here but I don't ever think I have heard people say it.

Mainichi: NPA announces new guidelines to cut down on taxi robberies
In response to a string of robberies of taxi drivers, the National Police Agency (NPA) has announced a set of revisions to its taxi crime prevention guidelines, including requirements for rear seat barriers, and mandatory crime prevention training for drivers every year. In addition to the current recommended rear seat partitions, the recently announced revisions include a suggestion to extend barriers behind the front passenger seat to protect drivers from attacks by passengers. According to the NPA, there were 40 taxi robbery incidents between January and March this year, down by 16 from the same period the previous year. However, murder-robbery cases targeting taxi drivers in Hyogo and Osaka prefectures last December, and an attack on another driver in Chiba Prefecture earlier this month have prompted police to make drastic revisions to the guidelines. The new guidelines will be sent to police headquarters and related organizations across the country soon.
