Gang rape is "virile" and "normal"

Postby Taro Toporific » Fri Jun 27, 2003 11:32 am

Image LDP lawmaker calls gang rapists 'virile'
Yahoo News / Kyodo Press -- June 27
Seiichi Ota, a Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker and former cabinet minister, suggested on Thursday that gang rape could be tolerated as it shows the rapists are "virile" and "close to normal."
The remark came during a debate among politicians on Japan's declining child population -- a phenomenon Ota attributed to a lack of courage among Japanese men to go into marriage life.

Former Sen. Strom Thurmond dies at 100
Knight Ridder Newspapers / Thu, Jun. 26, 2003

"I love all of you - and especially your wives," [Strom Thurmond] told senators in a farewell speech last fall.Image

Female reporters, staff and members of Congress frequently swapped stories about the time "Ol' Strom" squeezed or hugged them in what they considered a too-familiar way.

In 1968, eight years after the death of his first wife, Jean Crouch Thurmond, Thurmond married a former Miss South Carolina, Nancy Moore. Their union drew snickers: He was 66, she 22.

But Thurmond had the last laugh. He fathered two sons and two daughters within the next seven years

Update: LDP's reprimand about gang rape

This report is so messed up it sounds like Ota did NOT apologize...

LDP reprimands Ota for calling gang rapists 'virile'
(Kyodo) - Jun 27, 12:05 PMLDP reprimands Ota for calling gang rapists 'virile'

TOKYO - Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary General Taku Yamasaki reprimanded party colleague Seiichi Ota on Friday for suggesting Thursday that gang rape could be tolerated because it shows the rapists are "virile" and "close to normal."

Ota apologized, Yamasaki told a press conference. "Gang rape shows the people who do it are still virile, and that is OK. I think that might make them close to normal," Ota, a 57-year-old House of Representatives member, said Thursday during a debate with other politicians in Kagoshima.

So darling Jesse changed his opinions with the times? Or there are just a lot of voting biggots in his State?..

Actually, I don't know much about him aside from the bad press.. But I'm also not all that interested...

I think people get elected because they represent the 'voting' people's views. Which usually ends up being either far left, far right, far too rich, or special interests.. What's the voting rate in the States? 35%, or something? I'd like to see voting be mandatory for a stint.. Just as an experiment.

Oh, why you hiding again, Gai?

Yes everyone must vote or you are fined. If you don't like the choices, tough shit, vote for the least repugnant, that is the only possible way to stop the fuckwits from winning. If you register your 'discontent' by not actualy filling in the ballot (informal voting) then those that vote for the idiots can actualy put them in power. we had a brush with this lately with a political idiot called Pauline Hanson, who makes George W look like a genious, 8O 8O who is currently being heard in the courts as to why the party she formed was illeagle, had ties with the US KKK and only she and her adviser could decide the policy of the party not all the paid up ordianary members like the law says is the way to run the thing :?

I am ignoring the crack about the 12 voters :D

sorry to change the subject back to the threads story...

But I wonder how the guy will be reprimanded???

In most places there would be demands for resignation for someone in his position. In japan??? hell likely be a hero and perhaps suggest the University guys that gang raped a woman last week were "THE VICTIMS"

heard that before??? :?: :?:

In some eikiwas you can be fired for talking to a female student in the street

But if your japanese and gang rape....then you are "virile" and basically OK      8O 8O 8O

I wonder if he would have made those remarks in 1995 Okinawa??????

and more importantly what the reaction would have been.?????

Koizumi can rebuke him.......and then head to Yasukuni :? HHNMmm I think there are even more vile people "enshrined" there.

Oh, hello SS. You needed me to tell you my nationality because you were always getting that wrong. You've got the age wrong now, shall I tell you that too? Hint, I'm older than you (if you weren't lying about your age during the first Gulf War).

Ah Pauline Hanson. I still have an image in my head of her barking out "WE-ARE-ALL-AUS-TRALIANS!" from when she was making the argument to end all benefits to Aboriginals. What a sweetheart. Glad to see that karma and reality are catching up to her.

Postby Socratesabroad » Fri Jul 04, 2003 11:42 am

With my first attempt at posting on this site, I will forge ahead, surely screwing something up in the process.

Now I usually just chuckle and move on without saying anything, but the childish and rather poorly considered comment below irked me. I recall the thread to have been about Ota (and Mori as well) and comments about women. Someone interjects about Thurmond's death and the comment below is a response?!?

Former Sen. Strom Thurmond dies at 100

Goodbye southern-fried bigot. Maybe Jesse Helms will keep you
company soon.

Now this brilliant riposte reflects on the author's 1) paucity of knowledge of politics in the Deep South (the Southern US, for those unfamiliar with the term) and 2) lack of a general sense of decorum.

Perhaps I am just too traditional to expect articulate discussion on the Internet, but I am hoping that the author of that diatribe will consider the point I have made.

(I will apologize ahead of time for any spelling errors, which I blame entirely on my inability to ever pass that high school course in 'Keyboarding').

You haven't made ANY point. You made a statement.

I think the author of the afformentioned "diatribe" was saything that Old Jesse Helms may be joining Thurmond wherever he is soon due to his old age as well.

And Thurmond WAS(since he is dead now. If he was alive, I'd say IS) a bigot. And he WAS (IS) from the south. He and other bigots like him stopped preaching what they really believed becuase of the voters. They wanted to stay in power, so they shut up about their beliefs.

Socratesabroad, I'd reply, but American Oyaji summed things up pretty well already. If you happen to see Strom Thurman, tell him I said "Goodbye southern-fried bigot."

... but don't forget the loving caring Malaysian politicians

Postby ramchop » Thu Sep 04, 2003 10:07 am

A controversial leader of Malaysia's Islamist opposition party, the Pan Malaysian Islamic Party, has been criticised by women's groups for saying that wearing perfume and lipstick could arouse men and provoke rape.

...the controversial minister regularly appears to place the blame for men's failings on women.

Most notoriously, he suggested that his state government should only employ ugly women, because pretty ones might get married.
