the labelling issue is interesting...do you know what the mark looks like in Japan?? kanji etc.? I would be interested to know.

I think it will be difficult for consumers as look at labeling in the past.....

LIGHT often = light flavour, salt etc. not necc. Fat.
symbols can be very small.

there are many other cases like this so I wonder how easy it will be to recognize a GM from a non GM product.

For those concerned with GM ingredients, be happy in the knowledge that they do test for these things in Japan:

On Friday the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry revealed a New Zealand company had alerted it to GM-positive tests carried out in Japan by a pizza-maker on a topping mix containing the sweetcorn grown near Gisborne.

Testing over the weekend showed the presence of Bt11, an insect and herbicide-resistant GM sweetcorn variety that can legally be eaten in New Zealand but not grown here.

Personally I feel that if you like corn on your pizza you're a mutant already.
