Schakal,

Not trying to discourage you or anything, but you simply don't know that for a fact. In fact, you have that fact totally wrong.

If you do a little research you'll find that compulsory fingerprinting was the norm for foreign visitors and residents up until 2000. The system was abolished against the will of the government and police under pressure from human rights groups. But then as soon as the US decided to start fingerprinting everyone who entered the country as part of it's oxymoronic "war on terror" campaign, the Japanese government saw an opportunity to reinstate compulsory fingerprinting in even more odious form by simply jumping on the bandwagon provided by the US (thanks a lot, guys).

Quite simply, most crimes committed in Japan are committed by Japanese (pretty easy to figure out if you do the math). Crime by foreigners is a drop in the bucket, but the police and government do their best to make it appear to be a huge problem by biasing the stats, by lumping *all* crime by foreigners into one padded number, including minor offenses like loitering or J-walking.

These are a few of the facts that you're missing, and really need to consider in light of your plans to migrate. The only way you'll really pick up this type of info is to be here though, so as others have suggested you should find a way to get here temporarily first to check it out. It might not be (probably won't be) as easy to live here as you imagine.

3 home burglaries, 4 stolen bikes & counting in 20yrs

Postby Taro Toporific » Sat Mar 28, 2009 10:59 am

As GomiGirl said about taking advantage of the Working Holiday visa as a "gap year", as a North American you can take your junior year abroad and check out Japan (without fucking up your university admission at age 18 or making a nasty resume hole after getting your BA).

Also, remember, that Japanese as a college major is like taking a dump on your university degree---The smell will never go away and you will have the stench hanging on your wall.
For future hireability, employers only look for a resume with a real major with definable skills and then maybe Japanese as a MINOR (or double major) .

Schakal wrote:....I am fully aware that Japan is the complete opposite of Canada when it comes to crime...
Despite the "official" Japanese statistics, when it comes to crime Tokyo/Kanto has much higher rate of home burglary (abet unreported because the J-police here only are interested in heinousB.W.G. violations).

[quote="Schakal"]So please. Millions of Immigrants overcome language barriers and racism everyday to escape from their shitholes, and to me, Toronto is a big shithole right now. I can't talk to any of my neighbours because they don't fucking speak English. I had 2 white chicks in my math class last semester. The rest were veiled. I hate this multiculturalist bullshit]

This is some of the most twisted logic I've heard in quite a while. Do you realize that YOU will be the one who doesn't look the same, speak the same, or act the same? As a racist yourself, you don't have the slightest clue what it is like to be on the receiving end.

The truth is that people in Japan, on average, are far less racist than you. I'd predict, though, that the same inflexible thinking and fear of the unknown that makes you hate your neighbors is also going to make you a failure at trying to adapt here. It will start your first day. You'll arrive, you'll have trouble renting a place to live because the landlord realizes you can't read the lease, can't understand the rules posted in the building, can't communicate verbally, and have iffy financial status. And the first thing you'll do is rationalize this in your head as "this landlord is a racist cunt". And you'll have similar experiences one after another, get increasingly bitter about it, and leave the country.

I've seen lots of people who harbor racist thoughts come to Japan, and none of them lasted. They're gone within a year or two.

Hmm, didn't know that. I used statistics from this site which I digested very thoroughly

http://www.jref.com/society/foreign_crime_in_japan.shtml

(2004)
Which broke it down. Thank you for clarifying some of my misconceptions. I'll be the first to admit that I know nothing about Japan and since you all live there, you know infinitely more than I do so I'd do better to put everything I thought I knew aside.

I understand that there are some resident peniscaps who resent outsiders, just like everywhere on the internet, but on the whole I found this thread extremely informative and a great place to start. I *honestly* was not expecting this many replies, and this many helpful ones, either. The gap year + working visa is something I'll definitely look into.

Anyhoo, I'm sorry if I pissed anyone off about anything and for my long-ass posts. Thanks for reading them. Good luck; maybe I'll come back or bump into one of you (when I'm actually there :D). Peace

[quote="Schakal"]...
Racism is everywhere. I'd rather be given the evil eye by old Japanese farts and denied entry to a few places rather than be called "white boy" by some shitskins from the hellholes of India, who are trying to dress gangsta and act black when they haven't even seen a quarter of the shit I used to do on a regular basis. White people built this fucking country for them to come here and insult us, when they rot back home and come here because they can't build shit?? And we couldn't do a damn thing except swear back else we'd be suspended, expelled and charged.

Everyone who's not White or East Asian, which is the majority here in Toronto, hates or at least harbours some resentment for White people. I feel it and my friends feel it]

If you do move to Japan, then it's clearly Toronto - Canada's gain and Japan's loss.

And with you way of thinking I doubt that you'll last a month, never mind a whole year, in Japan.

i did. however it's monday and the amount of typing about how much of an epic fail this guy is for being an immigrant hating immigrant (i'm quite sure that his reply would be 'my parents immigrated here, not me, i'm not at fault) would take much more effort than i'm prepared to put in.

maybe by wednesday i'll give a fuck about tearing this guy a new one. probably not though.

parting message? all i saw was a bunch of dribble about wanting to bang japanese girls and that you're an immigrant bitching about other immigrants. and then some more rambling nonsense about racism and that you know fuck-all about japan.

So you're of Russian descent. That explains a lot, if not everything. ;)

In that case, you should move to Japan as you can meet lots of young Russian girls there.

ahahahahahahahaha, i change my mind about you. your ignorance, stupidity, and hitler quotes amuse me. you're like one of those retarded kids that you just can't help but giggle at when he does something like pull his shorts down at the dinner table to get the attention of the guests.

how much time have you actually spent in russia? my guess is not much.

you seem like the kind of person that is going to bitch about anywhere you are. especially with your arrogant immigrant attitude. i can guarantee that the only special treatment you're going to get in japan is the discrimination kind. if you can't peacefully live among immigrants and other ethnicities in your current location, you're not going to do much better in japan (or elsewhere).

and btw, i DO live among somalis, ethiopians, and all kinds of other black people.

Postby Schakal » Tue Apr 14, 2009 10:00 am

Right off I'd like to ask everyone if they could please refrain from the make fun of my slight retardation and uncontrollable attention-whoredness as it is very sensitive issue to me :(

Russian 'women' are whores and probably the biggest goldminers out there and I've got no interest in meeting any more of them, ever. Yes I'm insulting my mother (she's actually really a whore too). Asian girls, on the other hand...

I don't get what all of you are bashing russia for. I don't have any feelings for it. I lived there for 40 days when I was 15 and it was pretty fun but overall, it's a crappy country. Sure we're the biggest and invented vodka and launched the first satellite/animal/human into space, but the average male life expectancy is 52 (lower than a lot of African countries; 74 for females though ??) and it just plain sucks.

Cyka, while I am very happy that I made a fellow human laugh I must express my disappointment that you consider me intellectually inferior, just because I refused to swallow the politically correct 60s liberal hippy bullshit that they tried so hard to cram down my throat every single day at high school, EVERY DAY WITHOUT FAIL, 2005-2009. Every man is NOT created equal. Why do Black dudes have large wangs, run real fast and jump real good, but do so poorly in American schools? Why do White dudes send rocket ships to Mars and invent the internet and shit but think that they still own the world? Why are Asian dudes so Asian? All these questions, and then some.

Anyways glad I could be of some amusement. To be completely honest, I think I might agree with you that the problem might be me bitching about my environs instead of making them suit me. I'm still working shit out.
