SMAP x POLICE

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Thu Apr 23, 2009 12:17 pm

SMAP's Tsuyoshi Kusanagi Busted (Japanese)

It looks like Tsuyoshi was caught drunk and naked in a Tokyo park at about 3:00 am this morning.

Awesome title. I have a feeling that there will be tons of gomennasai pleads.

The news is having a field day with this. It's about the same level of coverage you get in the US if a celebrity is arrested for murder. Anyway, he's already been dropped by these guys:

My first thought is that he's rich as hell, probably tired of doing this SMAP stuff for 20 years now, and planned this stunt as the most expeditious way of getting out of contracts & obligations.

Good for him! Japanese celebrities could do with a little more controversy and character. He'll probably take 12 months off, attend a number of therapy sessions at some well-to-do clinic somewhere, then make a come back special with the rest of the SMAP boys. Their reunion album will make millions of dollars while Tsuyoshi gets a holiday in the meantime. It's win/win :D

Another point, what was he drinking? The fact that he got naked in public sounds to me that it wasn't just booze and perhaps there was some kind of E/PCP/Crystal Meth connection.

Speed or some sneeze does seem to have some credence here. But, TIJ, barring nose and needlework, just being shit-faced and getting nude is just another misdemeanor public indecency/intoxication charge. Japan's finest will have to come up with something more than that to be able to send him away to the land of regular proctology exams.

Nah - gotta disagree with you there.

Naked in public sounds pretty common to me for alcohol soaked men - maybe it is just the boys that I hang around with perhaps. But really, the number of times I have been flashed by drunken boys "cos it is funny" is astounding.

No drugs involved at all.. just booze + high jinx = free snake

This is a cross racial/cross cultural Y chromosome thing in my experience. I am certainly not complaining at all. :drool5:

Don't know why but I always thought it was going to be Shingo who would bring SMAP down. But I can't say that I'm unhappy to see the end of these guys. I'll admit that perhaps Kimura Takuya can act and sing, but Nakai, can't sing to save his life, and is the worst actor in the world, and he is old to boot. How they kept passing for a boy band is beyond me. They graduated from that title about 12 years ago.
Now if we could only get rid of KInki Kids, and V6, and NEWS, and a few other groups, TV would be a better place.

Don't buy it Canman! When they are actually broken up, in pieces, out of the country, nailed to the wall in separate cities, etc., I will believe it. They can say whatever they want for right now and it will probably just become the basis for their new great event, "let bygones be bygones" nationwide tour. What's more, it will probably open in your neighborhood kaikan...

The media is busting a nutt over this it is ridiculous. This is going to be the most talked about news for the week. Whatever happened to the DPRK missile affair..

Now the latest is that the police is searching his house. OK.. why? Is this standard procedure in Japan?

Today I have received eight email messages from Japanese girls who are so distraught they felt compelled to send their hand-rolled translations of the "terrible" news (as though I would give a rip).

Taro, are you talking about this news or just bragging about how many girlfriends you have?

I think Tommy they might be thinking it could be drugs. Why else would they be raiding his home. If he was just drunk and disorderly, then that would be it wouldn't it.
Anyway, Taro you are so lucky to have so many wonderful stable friends!!8-O

I don't know GG. I've been as drunk as is humanly possible on many, MANY occassions and have never had the urge to take my clothes off in public. Nor, it appears, have any of my friends. Now maybe that comes from growing up in a place where, at certain times of the year, one might get frostbite if one dropped trou outside, but I think not.

Big Deal

I don't see what the big deal is.

We all see this sort of thing from Japanese salarymen everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

Getting drunk and passing out on platform benches? Sure. Puking in the middle of the street? OK. Stumbling drunkenly to the side of the street, whipping it out, and taking a leak? Yeah. But sitting stark naked in the middle of a public park while mumbling to yourself in Korean? Not so much.

I think most places in the world would have viewed that a little differently than the things Japanese salarymen get up to. Which is not to say that it deserves the attention that the Japanese media have given it.

Or even the attention that we have given it ;)

This isn't your normal party situation though, Gomi. I know where you're coming from and in a group situation when everyone's tanked, a flash or streak can be laugh out loud funny. The facts for now are that this was a single guy, by himself in the middle of the night, screaming naked in a park. Assuming he was with a party and got naked there, who would leave their famous celeb friend to such a fate? I really think the odds on favorite is that the police will find something in his home that he really shouldnt have.

Happened to be walking past the new harajuku police headquarters about 8pm tonight and there were still a bunch of cameramen and other hangers on outside. There were a couple of girls (butt ugly but that is an aside) squealing at their keitai photos they had snapped during the day. I was on my way to meet a friend so wasn't able to hang out and see what was the scoop. But it seemed to be all done and dusted by that time anyways. :smoking:

I was too lazy to look at the article myself, but my girlriend says they didn't find anything. I said how ridiculous I thought it was to search a guy's house for being drunk and naked in public and she said there must be some other reason that's not being made public for them to go that far.

They are obviously hoping to find a cache of illegal drugs that would help "explain" his nutty behavior. God forbid if it were only due to the alcohol!

This being the 'Net where only truly serious deserving topics are discussed ...does anyone feel like starting a "solidarity nude-in" demonstration at Hinokichi Park? It's something I'd gladly send to 100 of my "closest" teenaged female friends :p

I think that about sums it up. Although I also think that we can be forgiven, because we're actually giving deserved attention to the undeserved attention.

I have always been fascinated by the way the Japanese media responds to certain events. This one is a perfect example. Nobody was hurt or threatened. A few people were annoyed at the noise, perhaps. But basically it's a benign and frankly boring occurrence. You wouldn't think so from the reportage though.

But I suppose we also have to remember how the western media goes apeshit whenever a celebrity picks their nose or does something equally newsworthy, so I guess it's really not all that unique.

Fascinating though.

RE GG's comment about drunk mates. I've never had any drunk friends get naked for the hell of it.

Wait, that's not true. I HAVE had drunk female friends get naked, but that's in private and not out in public where strangers can walk by and see you starkers.....or are you saying at a house party?

Well, they are the media after all. They need to keep us informed about all the latest breaking news. This country is in desperate need of something like The Daily Show to totally ridicule their pathetic politicians and horrendous media (and yes I realize that the expressions pathetic politicians and horrendous media are redundant, with no offense intended to those FG reporters out their who try to keep themselves on a higher plane).
