While I never was a big fan, I still think this is fairly big and shocking news. I guess there will be nothing but wall to wall Jackson coverage for the next week or so.

Been a strange week for 1970's-80's era stars passing. For me and my ongoing entry into puberty, Farrah Fawcett meant more.

And a dozen or more threads that will likely pop up just in FG alone dedicated to his death.

Difference is that this thread started respectfully. Not making a "joke" about it.

Sniff. I'm going to miss those bizzarro press conferences tours of Japan that he had been doing in recent years. That and the fact that way too many Japanese still were going apeshit about him. Kinda give me a wonderful though unwarranted snugness (hey I may be gaijin scum but you people respect Michael Jackson)

If autopsy results ever become public, I suspect the toxicology report will reveal that pharmaceuticals will be, at least in part, responsible for his demise.
Full cardiac arrest at 50? Even his attorney came out with a statement that alludes to as much.

I kinda felt sorry for Michael. He was a child star forced into an entertainment career when he was four years old. He was deprived of a childhood. When children were playing kids games and having fun, he was on the road living out of a hotel room with adult body guards. He was never a teenager as we know it. When his peer group teens were going to dances, pizza parlors and hanging out, he was in the same hotel rooms with more body guards. He had money to buy anything he wanted for most of his life, but what could he buy.

I think his Never-Never land (or whatever he called it) was simply a search for the youth he never had....

I think for what all he had, or more yet, didn't have, Michael died very lonely....
RIP

I hate to say it, but the guy is probably better off dead. He was obviously an unhappy individual.

I don't mind the coverage. Actually it's good to see a lot of stuff that perhaps was overshadowed by the 'bizzaro' years. Moon-walking, The glove, the BAD album videos.

What's getting my goat are these smarmy homilies and 'crocodile tears' from the entourage and the hangers-on all elbowing their way onto CNN or some-such trying to be a spokes-man, woman, person. All laying the groundwork for the tell all book they have already ghost-contracted out.

Come to think of it....I been in LA, I've been in UCLA medical center.....I'm sorry I've gotta go I think I hear the BBC calling...

And of course the Queen is doing her PRINCESS DI DEATH SPEECH REDUX

ABSOLUTELY ONE-derful man, such a dancer.

All kidding aside, with his large family (and entourage), I doubt there will be a dearth of ppl willing to step up to the plate in that regard.

It was probably good that died when he did, could you imagine what he would look like if he was 60. Anyways, he lived a good life, but saying he died young is pushing it.
I am not really sure where I am going, I just hope that when I get there, I can sit down because I am sure my feet will be tired.

I agree. First Ed McMahon died and then Farrah and now Michael, man...didn't really see that one coming. He was a great performer, that's for sure! I always liked his music (well, the old stuff anyway) sad the guy got stranger as time went on. Regardless of what the allegations were. No one will really ever know except for him and the kid(s) if something ever happened or not.

I still don't know what all the hoopla over "Thriller" was about. "Off the wall" was a waaaay better album. Him and the "Q" were simply awesome! Just had to throw that in!!

Anyone know what the over/under is on:

a) when we get the first sighting of Michael at, say, a McDonald's drive-thru in Minneapolis;

b) when we get the first sighting of Michael hanging out with, say, Elvis, James Dean, and/or Buddy Holly?

And here we go. "Memorial" MJ CD racks in the most prominent locations in just about every CD store in the country. He was a musician/performer, a public figure, so I'm not particularly surprised or offended by this, but the rush to make a buck off his demise is so blatantly transparent ... just doesn't sit right. There is a fine line between respect and opportunism, perhaps?
