Omae, I had the Double Cheeseburger plus bacon. Try the same thing so we can compare notes. It might be strangely 100 yen cheaper to get the Double Hamburger plus cheese plus bacon. I meant to ask about it but forgot.

I've got a photo of it I'll post later.

Here's an 800 yen "Smile Sando" from Smile Burger which you can buy at their Kiyomizu Temple branch in Kyoto. It's aimed at travellers and the company says it tastes just as great cold which tells me all I need to know.

There's a new "American Diner" in Ebisu called Hummingbirds' Hill which offers a bacon cheeseburger on the menu for 1,250 yen.

Wow. That appears to be about a 2-minute walk from where the Fat Rob's burger joint was until they went out of business last year. Either they didn't do their research or they think they can do a better job in that location than the last guy to try it.

The "gourmet" burger places in Japan never get the bacon crispy enough. On the other hand they unfortunately toast the buns in such a way they the outside ends up dry and brittle which makes it really hard to eat the burger because if you try to squish the bun down it just breaks up in your hand.

By the way, can a regular person even buy hamburger buns in Japan? I've never seen them in a supermarket.

Another burger joint has opened and, in keeping with the title of this thread, it's in Roppongi. Demode 7 Fussa Burger opened on the 26th August in a spot on the 1st floor of the Roa Building, above Paddy Foleys. The owners, Kiwa Corporation run a varied portfolio of restaurants and also have a branch of the same burger operation in Yoyogi, near Sangubashi station.

No idea what it's like, and it looks like the place is only open from 6:00pm to midnight so you can't check it out for lunch.

I forgot to post earlier, but I finally managed to get over to Grill Burger Club Sasa in Daikanyama last month. Had a bacon cheeseburger and a beer to wash it down. It was actually quite good, and they are not stingy. This is a big burger, and had a reasonably sized side of french fries. One the one hand I think 1300-1400 yen is still a bit pricey. On the other hand, they do have to pay the wages for the waitresses and buy those tight T-shirts they make them wear. So I guess it's only fair!

New Year burger from the Smile Burger restaurant next to Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto. The price is 2010 yen. Only 22 will be availble on the 1st of January and each will come with two cups of sake and an omikuji set. The lower patty is 190g while the one on top is 85g and it is roughly the size of 6 standard burgers.

Wow. The kuchikomi reviewers on Tabelog do not like this place at all. Just glanced at a few, but one 2 (out of 5) star review came from somebody who was a fan of the stores in Hawaii. Initially thrilled that the burger looked exactly like he remembered, he changed his mind after tasting it. He missed the char-broiled smell of the originals, the burger was undercooked (raw, apparently), and the buns were as soft as sliced white bread and crumbled as he ate the burger. Other reviews raise similar points and also say it is overpriced.

I went to Bubby's Yokohama (at Sakuragi-cho stn.) a few months ago with a bunch of folks, and I thought the burgers were not bad.
It's a New York eatery and the menu reflects that. It has a separate diner half, and quite a variety of pies.
