Rant time

Ok, just have to vent. Friends and I at the usual tachnomiya in Shinjuku-sanchome. yeah, I know I don't drink, but I dig on their ukon cha, they yakitori is good, and the environment works for me. Standing at the table behind me are other 4 gaijin, all mid/late 20s, and they had a discussion for over an hour about the philosophy behind manga & anime.
Now, ok, if you're into it, you're into it, but it was how they discussed it that made me homicidal.
"The mis-an-scene was deeply reminiscent of some of the early works of Kurasawa, with particular emphasis of the diametric and what the French describe as...."

Holy fucking shit, they're giving doctorates in manga/anime studies now?

The lecture continued, "Due to my understanding of the culture, I am able to ascertain the finer points of the director's message with help of the subtitles."

Yeah, right.

I'm starting to understand Takechan's feelings regarding a few issues.
Takechanpoo:
"Yeah, I've been always awkward toward women and have spent pathetic life so far but I could graduate from being a cherry boy by using geisha's pussy at last! Yeah!! And off course I have an account in Fuckedgaijin.com. Yeah!!!"

Bucky daughter complains regularly about students in her high school Japanese class here in the Seattle area. There seem to be so many anime geek-types dumbing-down the class.

They start young.

I was thinking of adding a clause to the VISA requirement section.

Do you talk about mange and anime in a way that would have put Andy Warhol to sleep?
Yes, ENTRY DENIED! Assemble the firing squad.

One of them was Takepoo.

Pretense, postmodernism and anime. Now there's a winner for yea. But I am wondering what part of the tentacle porn they were watching reminded them of Kurasawa?

The religion professor at my old university wrote an article about the religious symbols in Evangelion, he was kind of eccentric but knew his shit. I even had a discussion about how some anime was an allegory for how Christians and the West view and deal with the Middle East and Muslim people.

Personally I don't really have a problem with their discussion, kind of like how people discuss the symbols and meanings of the Star Wars movies or Tarantino flicks. I much would prefer these guys to be talking about something like that than some mindless drivel about which is their favorite anime charater.

Tentacle porn comes from a famous wood-block print about a fisherman's wife being raped by an octopus. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dream_of_the_Fisherman%27s_Wife
I am not really sure where I am going, I just hope that when I get there, I can sit down because I am sure my feet will be tired.
