Fire at indoor SKorean shooting range kills 10
Assicuated Oress, November 14, 2009
A fire tore though an indoor shooting range in southern South Korea on Saturday, killing 10 people, including at least two Japanese tourists, and injuring six, police said.

Some people were on fire as they ran out of the building, the Yonhap news agency quoted a witness as saying.

An official at the National Emergency Management Agency said authorities were struggling to identify the dead due to their burns, but a police official said at least two Japanese were confirmed killed.

Nine Japanese tourists and their South Korean guide were inside the facility in the southeastern port city of Busan when the fire broke out on the second floor of a five-story building, police official Han Jong-seok said. He said it was not known how many other people were in the building at the time.

I'm still waiting to hear about the Japanese drug traffickers who were arrested in New Zealand and Malaysia in the last few days. Fat chance, eh? Especially with something like this to incite an uproar about Korea's fire safety precautions (don't anybody mention the video store fire that killed 15 in Osaka last year ... or the Shinjuku Myojo 56 building fire that killed 44 people in 2001 ... ).

I wouldn't be surprised if the fire was completed unrelated to the gunfire... unless they were shooting tracers at paper targets or something.

It didn't even occur to me that it would be related unless maybe they were practicing with a flare gun.

And I wouldn't be surprised to hear if the incident was caused by the Japanese tourists.

I never knew about the gun tourism until the first time I went to Guam and noticed all the shooting ranges advertising in Japanese.

Totally illogical statement. Ranges for gun tourism exist (typically...) in countries where guns are legal. If there are "un-controlled, un-monitored, and senselessly dangerous" gun ranges then that is the fault of the country where they exist, not the country where they don't exist.

Japanese people (and others from countries with draconian gun bans) are notorious for their poor understanding of gun safety and lack of respect for firearms. But guns generally don't cause fires in indoor gun ranges unless somebody lighting a cigarette got shot or something... or unless there were some *serious* fire code violations.

Unlikely.

Stricter gun control in the US might result in a reduction murders but the US's relatively high murder rate isn't the result of access to guns.

Guns don't kill people, bullets do.

Also, the murder rate has to do more with a culture of violence and the fact that Americans are individualistic, aggressive and are programed to see violence as a viable solution to a large number of problems.

If you banned guns we'd just be poking each other with pointy sticks, until some guy shows up with a compound bow and everybody scatters...

Nothing solves an argument quicker than popping two or three caps from a .357 magnum..

Not trying to deviate from the original topic, but despite the strict gun control laws, Japan stilll has its own gun problems here and there. The second link is just plain stupidity though.

I'm all for strong gun control in Japan....imagine the mayhem if all the kooks here were let loose with firearms. It would put America to shame.

Eek! Scary! I only hope is aim is as good as it is with the beer bottle in his avatar....
BTW, where I come from, a banger means a sausage. But I'm guessing you're talking about guns. If you're talking about sausages, that bloke could have any number of them and still wouldn't know how to use them outside of his Lolita dakimakura.

I was watching the wide show a couple of days ago and they seem to be suggesting that the facility was trying to recycle bullets to save money and that is what cause the fire.

Recycling bullets as in reusing the cartridge metal casing is a normal thing to do. I am sure it was some absuridity like smoking while refilling the propellant.

Reloading ammo is totally normal. BUT, when you keep gunpowder in large amounts, that's when things can get...hazardous.
