This tailor in Suginami-ku seemed professional in tailoring suit and they accept alteration job too.

One of the Tsukuda Reform shop has a chain in Saty at Inage, but you probably don't trust them. The problem is, I am not sure if you approach any big departmental store, and even if they accept your alteration order, do they send it to these reform shops anyway. Well, just one extra option here and you can always have a look if the place is near you. http://www.e-tsukuda.com/store06.html

Schlepped my suits over to the Tsukuda branch at Inage Saty. It's a big shop, and the head seamstress (or at least that's what I took her to be) really knew her stuff. They were even willing to shorten and taper jacket sleeves with working buttons. The only thing they balked at was adjusting the jacket collars so they don't ride so high in the back (a chronic problem with me; they're always swamping my shirt collar). But even that they were willing to look into, and it turns out there's a seamstress at another branch who can do it.

All in all, exactly what I wanted. Thanks again tinateoh!

Sorry to come into this discussion late - I have just got back from my honeymoon in the South Pacific!!

Anyway - for alterations, I tend to use "Just - Recycle and Reform" They have outlets all over the place. They are great for taking up hems adjustments etc. Not sure on full tailoring but it sounds like you sorted yourself out.

For tailors - there is the HK one that brother uses or we have another one that I highly recommend out of Thailand. Step One Tailor - Bangkok. He comes to Tokyo about once a year and he is reasonable but brilliant. He has fabrics from cheaper stuff right through to really expensive stuff. He usually has deals for mens suits - ie Jacket, two pairs of pants, shirt etc for a set price depending on the fabric. He usually comes to Japan in July/Aug time. If people are interested, I am happy to have a "party" and invite friends over to have things ordered in bulk.

Anyway - I have used this guy for years for my own stuff, for hubbylicious and brother GG. I can even post him a pair of pants I want copied and then choose the fabric and he sends back the finished product.
