University degree transcripts

Postby Greener » Mon Aug 04, 2003 12:55 pm

Hi there,

I'm writing because I will finally have my degree in the spring of 2004. (Does the stupid dance like the Bloodhound Gang!!!) I am wondering if it is worth it to pay the money my school is charging for transcripts. (In the 30-40 dollar range, ouch.) I will be looking for employment in Japan in the spring for the summer or the fall of 2004 and I am wondering if I need my transcripts with my degree when applying for jobs. Any and all help is appreciated as I was in Japan on a Working Holiday Visa last time I was there and worked freelance almost exclusively through privates and a cheap gaijin hotel last time. (Is the Sen Inn in Tokyo still around?) This time I actually have to go through proper channels and all help will be appreciated.

Thanx in advance!!!

Send a PM to "Shibuya Me" and ask him since hiring is his business.

For getting a job at Fujitsu, Sony, Mitsubishi... or here at Maybe-the-Largest Inc., we have never asked for transcript. We only ask to see a valid, ORIGINAL, diploma (not a copy).

I think for getting a new visa, you'll need generally either an ORIGINAL diploma or/and a spouse.... but hey what do I know about visas since Immigration always hastles me 5 times more than all the other FGs.

Thanks for the info...

Like all Japanese companies, your transcript is KONKEI-NAI...Only the brandname of your school counts, AND any official licences/certifications you might have.

"coaching and teaching certifications" : VERY GOOD!

Private highschools will loooooooooooooooove that.
Don't forget Red Cross certifications, debate certification, etc. Schools love 'em.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but that sounds like my credentials aren't horrible if you aren't.

No, no, no. Not sarcastic, just realistic.
Japan is MENKYO-baka (credential crazy) and "education" industry loves any kind of paper gold frills on it.
