Sometimes I eat wasabi by itself just to gross other people out. Works like magic on a stuffed nose. Then again, I thought the point of that stuff was to cover the aroma of the less fresh cuts of sashimi at the supermarket, and occasionally to be used as a mild antiseptic. I tend to avoid it when eating sushi, since it basically occludes the taste of the whole deal. Not like I know dick about sushi, but who cares if you only go out for the kaiten stuff?

And from what I have seen of the couples at the mall and the train stations it works, but don't ask me why those girls find who find guys with clown shoes, concaved chests, pencil thin legs and arms, and have more product in their hair then the girl does attractive because I just don't want to know.

If I'm eating 100-yen kaiten, pile the wasabi on as high as it will go. If I'm eating somewhere that's actually supposed to be good, I want to taste the fish. I expect a Quarter Pounder to be smothered in condiments, fillet mignon should stand on its own.

It's funny that a chef from Sushi Zanmai is noting this trend, since one of my complaints about their food is that they drowned it in wasabi.
