The El Fathero called me up this morning with this problem. I went over after work and broke out the symantec tool:
Symatec Blaster Worm Removal Tool

Then we ran the patch:

The RPC patch

Now he has sygate personal firewall installed and AVG antivirus software installed and updated.

Blaster worm bores into Big Brother network(Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, Aug. 14, 2003)
An Internet worm called "Blaster" working its way through cyberspace has caused Tokyo's Setagaya-ku to suspend its connection with a national resident registration network, affecting passport application services.
Setagaya-ku officials admitted to suspending connections with the resident registry network, called "Juki Net" in Japanese, and that people living in the ward are currently unable to identify themselves through the system...

    THEY'RE SO CLUELESS.

Yes, the news this morning showed Setagaya kuyakusho computers sitting with their power off. Nobody wants to turn on their computers until an investigation of the virus and remedies takes place. Is this dumb or what?

I was hit with the RPC virus and fixed it by myself. If someone with zero PC skills like me can fix the problem with a little bit of effort, surely they could do it as well.

I've got my Blaster Patch and Tool downloaded (thanks BB) and stored in my USB thumbdrive. Monday morning, I'll unplug my ethernet, run the patch and tool; update my virus definitions; plug back in my ethernet; and wait for the H-E-L-P_M-E calls. DANG; No posting for me on the FG all Monday morning while I help all the other folks.

No need to attest. I freely admit it.

Thank god for the cstaylors of the world who I can call upon when I accidentally delete my own profile settings and commit other forms of suicide on my computer.
