Shimane Boxing Granny

The new mascot for local police in Shimane is a granny with boxing gloves. The character's creator, Miwa Kuramoto, says it conveys the image of a tough elderly population who will be no pushovers for criminals, particularly unscrupulous salesmen. It's another striking reminder of how the ageing population is redefining many aspects of society.
