Whoa! Japan is No. 1...OK, so supplying terrrorists with their main means of transport and suicide vehicles is perhaps nothing to brag about, but you've gotta admit it has been a long, long time since Japan could hold its head high for something that's happened in a combat zone.
BTW, is that a billboard for a love hotel in the picture? I could only see blokes and, reading the sign right to left, it looks like it's intending to say "shirt-lifter."

My bad...I'm beginning to suspect the one with the beard and slouch hat may be a woman, minus her burqua.

The same deal was going on with used Land Cruisers...Pakistani car buyers were getting them at auction here and sending them home and to Afghanistan. Not sure if they're still up to it...

The LandCruiser was the king of vehicles back in PNG, a used one cost as much as a new one here in Japan.... Most of the people went with the Hilux, or the Nissan Patrol which was also badass. (They make them here but export all the Patrols, usually for the U.N.)

God....makes me want a technical to ride around Yokohama when the 'zoku come around... :flame:

My dad has been driving an 88 Hilux (although in the US it was just called "short bed pickup truck," and Tacoma in the later models) since he bought used a week after it it was brand new.

They are basically indestructible, as Top Gear showed, but the 2.2 liter gasoline engine has *zero* power, the steering sucks (takes a thousand turns to go from lock to lock), and the ride is STIFF because of the ancient leaf spring design.

Statistically speaking, the chances that a car bomb ISN'T going to be a Toyota are pretty damn low.

But it's never a truck; trucks are too valuable to insurgents. Watch the news and it's always a burnt out sedan.

The diesel version of a car rarely has more power than the gas/petrol one.

The diesel simply has more torque and is more reliable, and diesel is cheaper in most countries (except for the US, where it costs more because of taxes).

The turbo gasoline version is the one you want.
