Chibi Maruko

Postby Taka-Okami » Sun Nov 21, 2010 4:05 pm

I always get confused about what beginner, intermediate and advanced when it comes to Japanese. For example, if one understood 95% of the Chibi Maruko anime, would that still be beginner? If you understand J-news say 80-%, is that intermediate? I guess I'm talking about listening rather than speaking.

Beginner: Understands the Nigerian touts in Roppongi
Intermediate: Understands the Chinese bird in Kabukicho who's just been paid to give a blowjob
Advanced: Understands the drunks mumbling aimlessly while in a stupor lying spreadeagled over a subway seat

But you see there is a catch there. Understanding 95% of Chibi Maruko means that you have to watch it and that is a known method of damaging your high brain functions. You'll end up speaking Japanese like you have Down's Syndrome. Stick to Nigerian touts or Chinese hookers if you ask me.

I want to know what level of fluency you have attained when you ARE one of the drunks mumbling aimlessly while in a stupor lying spreadeagled over a subway seat.

If you understand and relate to Crayon Shinchan, say >80%, I'm gonna assume that makes you relatively normal.

Understanding

If you understand more as you get drunk, your a beginner. If you understand Japanese jokes, your advanced. If you enjoy Japanese jokes, your an idiot.

Why? It's a hell of a lot more fun to be a jack of many languages than a master of one.

My mind's playing tricks on me...I thought you wrote It's a hell of a lot more fun to jack off in many languages than masturbate in one...but then I realized exactly what you'd written.
BTW, you're indicates the possessive verb, not your. But I did think my mistaken reading of your post was remarkably good.

Not that I have EVER claimed speaking American to be my native tongue but,

From another thread:

FG Lurker wrote:The closest story I have to something like this was me carrying a full sized solid wood desk on a subway train late at night...

Soooo, I guess this applies to you too:

Of all the years I have been reading FG I never realized you were a member of the language Gestapo. But since you are, better hit those books again and get re-certified.

A simple reply of 'touche' is more than enough.

You took the time to find a message, quote it, and then send me a PM about this as well? Dude, you need to get a life.

[Edit: Actually, you quoted two messages, one of which was cut and paste from another thread, wrote a reply here and a different reply via PM. Now I can see you're writing yet another reply in this thread. You crack me up.]

I am happy to provide you and other members of FG with some humor. Enjoy.

I see your response as 'your not half as funny as you think you are'. But practice makes perfect.

HEY, I am suppose to be the funny one! lol

Yes, I posted the reply on the thread before I PMed you. I just wanted to make sure you knew where the error was made.

I'm sorry, I thought my reply of "Why, it's a hell..." was acknowledging I made an error. For for those who did not understand, I, Tommybar, made an error on my earlier post. Where I should have used "you're" I used 'your'. I am sure if you look at my other posts, you will find many errors.

But I guess when I reply to your style of humor with something similar it does not sit well with you. Lesson learned. Please rant all you want about my posts, I will no longer lower myself to your level in fear it will make you cry again.

As for the 'show you up' and 'glass houses', I will let the members decide by yours and my posts.

But FEAR NOT! There is time still for you to have a emotional/mental growth spurt.

BTW, I did understand that you were trying to be humorous. I just though it more humorous that you would post such a remark while you make similar mistakes.

I would also like to point out that it is proper to capitalize the F and C in Jesus Fuckin H Christ's name. Let's be respectful, now.

And an apostrophe (') after Fuckin if we want to be precise.

If we want to be really, really picky, there should be a period after Christ as it is the end of a statement of exasperation. That means the W of "what" would also need to be capitalized as the start of a new sentence. "Aren't" also requires an apostrophe and the second question mark is redundant.
