Telegraph: American Vogue courts controversy with Asian model fashion shoot
A Steven Meisel shoot in the December issue of US Vogue featuring eight top Asian fashion models has created a stir in the blogosphere with conflicting opinions on whether the story should be praised as a revolutionary concept in modern publishing, or lambasted as tokenism. The pictures, styled by Grace Coddington, feature mohawked models including Ralph Lauren girl Tao Okamoto, and Gap model Du Juan, in a punk reinterpretation of a classic Cecil Beaton portrait from 1948, and are introduced with the statement: 'A new crop of models from China, Japan, and South Korea is redefining traditional concepts of beauty'...more...

It's always easier to think with half their brain (or in this case, half their ass aka. Half ass'd) and dismiss it as a racial provocation in some way, shape or form.

Personally... I find it a non issue. For those interested watch "The September Issue" and you'll quickly realise Grace is a genius when it comes to photography management and styling (though you'll need to wait to see the full result in the doco), and Wintours while controversial has never shied away, and more often results in setting a new industry standard.
