1,000 Yen Ueno-Narita Limousine Bus Service

Postby Mulboyne » Wed Dec 01, 2010 11:40 pm

[floatl]Image[/floatl]There's a new low-cost alternative limousine bus service operating out of Narita from today. A company called Charter Bus has started the Super Shuttle which will take you from the airport to Ueno & Asakusa for 1,000 yen. All booking has to be done online by credit card but there is an English hotline number (+81-3-3599-6834) which is open for inquiries and bookings from 9:15 am to 5:30pm Japan time. It's not as convenient as other options. For a start, it only goes from Narita Terminal 2 so you'll have to take the free airport shuttle bus if you are arriving or departing from Terminal 1. There are only 4 buses scheduled a day and the route is expected to take almost two hours. Also, reservations are essential - you won't be allowed to board even if there are empty seats available on the bus. That's obviously not especially useful for inbound passengers. If you do make a reservation but find your flight is delayed, then you'll lose your money if you miss the bus - tickets are not transferable or refundable. Nevertheless, it's 1,000 yen which undercuts the cheapest Keisei Line rail ticket between Ueno and Narita. Click on the link above for more details in English.

With only four scheduled services out of Narita (0830, 0930, 1400 & 1500), it might make more sense, for anyone who wanted to use it, to find a way to get online and booking on arrival. That way you know you won't miss it. You can get a ticket any time up to 20 minutes before departure. If you call the hotline, however, they'll only sell you one for the following day.

I really can't imagine the thought processes that went into creating this service. I'm guessing that it was something along the lines of, "How many ways can we help this fail?"
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

The regular Keisei Line is 1000 yen from Ueno to Narita, takes about 1hr15min and departs every 15 minutes or so. This bus service makes no sense.

it is for the lazy fat fucks that cant carry all of their luggage onto the train...

I always take the Keisei line when I go to Narita, lots of booze and PSP until i get to the airport where i continue the booze and PSP and then when I get on the plan for more booze and PSP...

That bus really is Nazi like though... no bueno

I just looked at the website and it seems double retarded. The other places where it stops are Asakusa and Komagata Bashi. The Asakusa Line stops in that area and some of those trains turn into Narita Airport-bound Kesei Line trains.

Yes this sounds a bit crazy. Since there are only 4(?) scheduled buses a day, maybe this new bus service is targeting only people staying at hotels near their stops.

(I suspect that some existing bus charter service was recently left with a surplus of buses and a drop in their business. This extremely limited new Narita service might be a way to reduce their losses from an excess of buses and employees sitting around underutilized.)
